In the first round of the 2025 U.S. adaptive opening, Kipp Popert revealed one of his own.
Popert broke the single-round scoring record for the event when he was born at the Woodmont Country Club at a 26-year-old British man who broke the event’s single-round scoring record at the Woodmont Country Club, and he played 65 times last year at the Sand Creek Golf Course in Kansas.
Popert’s score was also the second highest score recorded in the USGA Championship, one shot below Billy Horshel’s 2006 American amateur launch.
“What’s working?” Popter said. “I drove very well, wedged in a good wedge and hit the putter.”
Popte’s impressive match shouldn’t have been a surprise. He is the world’s number one disabled golfer and the two defending champion of the U.S. Adaptive Open. Last November, he participated in the Link Hong Kong Open, one of 10 elevated events on the Asian Tour, and it was the first time a disabled person had participated in the competition.
Earlier this year, Popert was slowed down by fusion surgery in his left toe, one of the many physical setbacks he has overcome. Born in spastic diplygia, a form of cerebral palsy that disrupts muscle movement, Popert has undergone 10 major procedures on his legs and feet.

In his first round at Woodmont South Field on Monday, a 6,439 yards from the T-shirt, Popert quickly started with a birdie and an eagle in his first three holes, heading to the front 929. By the end of the day, Popert took a six-stroke lead in overall fields of Mike Brown in England and Max Togisala in Clearfield, Utah, both shooting 65.
There are two other rounds in the 54-hole match.
The U.S. Adaptive Open is not the only USGA champion among Popert attractions this year. He has made progress in the amateur local qualifiers in the United States. The final qualifier will begin on July 14.
