Ferguson must now abandon jefte to release ‘sensation’ Rangers star

The Glasgow Rangers’ best form on Thursday night is far from their best Europa League quarterfinal since 2022.

They lost 2-0 to Fenerbahçe at night, the fourth consecutive defeat in club history – but beat 3-2 3-2 in front of a lively family crowd.

The Europa League remains the only silverware opportunity this season, with poor performance at home.

Ferguson’s interim spell has been mixed, to say the least, and the board must name its next permanent manager or may see the same result next season.

The Celtics are waiting for the Premier League this afternoon. Can Light Blues ensure their first victory at Parkhead since October 2020? Or will a company in the country win another old company on Sunday?

Whatever happens, Ferguson has to make some changes to his starting XI from the Fenerbahçe tie, especially when several members of the team fail to be expected at mid-week levels. That’s for sure.

The club runs with a 3-4-2-1 system, sometimes trying to curb the Turkish side throughout the game, and Jefte failed to cope with José Mourinho’s man.

The Brazilian was deployed to the left of the four-man midfielder, which should take advantage of his offensive qualities.

During the game, Jeft failed to get the exact crossover into the opponent’s free throw area, attempting with zero dribbling, winning the zero ground duel and losing six possession.

It was obvious that he failed to create enough opportunities on the left left and was eliminated later in the game.

In the last old company clash in early 2025, Jefte started at left back and was excellent. Not only did he impress his defense, he won four tackles in 15 games against the Celtics and won ten of his 15 games, but he even tried four dribblings – twice – while showing a lot of intentions to get involved, earning 62 goals.

But today, he has to be sent to the bench, especially after a poor mid-week performance. Winning at Parkhead is not easy, but if Ferguson releases Ianis Hagi in the left side of the four-man midfield against Parkhead, they may have a chance.

Especially after his heroism in the game at Ibrox a few months ago.

Hagi starring roles with Celtic in January

With Premier League titles playing effectively before Christmas, the clash of traditional holiday old companies this season has only been linked to pride. The light blues won the opponent in the dead rubber in May 2023.

Philippe Clement’s side is incredible under the Celtics, and just seven minutes later, Hagi led the way and he won a huge long-distance effort.

In the same game, the Romanian also made four key passes, made a total of five shots, tried three dribbling, and sent eight crosses into the opponent’s free throw area.

He was simply unable to handle him away and when there were games like Hagi, he was one of the best players in the country.

Missed a penalty against Finnaba in the midweek shootout, which could easily hit the ger, can Haji put it in his mind again and face the Celtics again?

Why Haji must start fighting against the Celtics for rangers

After a great performance against the Celtics in January, former Romanian International Ilie Dumitrescu praised Hagi:

“Ianis Hagi had a sensational game. He played a good shot and managed to make the goalkeeper as good as Kasper Schmeichel. But he did a great job throughout the game.

“After the goal, I saw Gheorghe’s expression, and he was still rude. That’s because he would expect Ianis to score. He was never overly excited!”

Although the contract situation puts his future in a difficult situation in the early stages of the campaign, the midfielder has performed well at home since returning to the first team in October.

In 19 Premier League games in Ibrox, Hagi not only scored 3 goals, but also scored 7 assists.

The Romanian international averaged 1.8 strokes per game in the highest flight of the semester, with an average of 1.9 key passes and 0.6 dribbling per game. He also created five big opportunities for Rangers during his Premier League period, demonstrating his offensive abilities.

His goal against the Celtics proves his mood and Ferguson hopes the 26-year-old will be competent after the game against the Turkish side.

While the victory won’t change the direction the champion is heading, winning the first time at Parkhead in four and a half years may just give the Gers some motivation to bring the club into the next few weeks of the season.

Ferguson will likely stick to the 3-4-2-1 system that is good for him in Europe.

If so, Jefte should be placed on the bench in support of Hagi, and they can offer more direct threats behind Mohamed Diomande and Vaclav Cerny.

If GERS is to ensure positive results, it is a certainty that his creativity must be demonstrated.

If they do, it could give the club a significant boost to the quarterfinals of the Europa League in the coming weeks.
