MARYLAND, South Africa — Andy Sullivan shot an 8-under 64 to take a one-shot lead in the first round of the Alfred Dunhill Champions on Thursday.
The No. 205 Englishman had eight birdies in a bogey-free round at Panther Creek Country Club.
England's Alex Fitzpatrick, the younger brother of 2022 US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, competes with Sweden's Marcus Kinhult and South Africa's Casey Jarvis tied for second.
No. 46 player Thriston Lawrence, the only player ranked in the top 50 on the 156-man field, shot 3 over and is already 11 strokes behind.
The tournament is the second consecutive European Tour event to be held in South Africa, following last week's Nedbank Golf Challenge.
