Uttar Pradesh pacer Ankit Rajpoot has announced his retirement from Indian cricket and revealed his decision through an Instagram post on Monday, December 16. Ankit Rajpoot says he will explore new opportunities in the world of cricket and its business side.
Rajput made his debut in Uttar Pradesh in November 2012. He also took 71 wickets in A cricket and 105 wickets in T20 matches. However, he did not get a chance to represent the Indian cricket team in international matches.

Ankit Rajpoot thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Kanpur Cricket Association and IPL teams like Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super giant.
“Today, it is with great gratitude and humility that I announce my retirement from Indian cricket. The journey from 2009 to 2024 was the most wonderful period of my life. I am grateful for the opportunity given to me by the Board of Control, Uttar Pradesh Board of Control Football Association, Kanpur Cricket Association, IPL franchises Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings 11, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants,” Ankit wrote.

The 31-year-old fast bowler is excited about exploring new opportunities in the business side of cricket. Ankit wishes all the team-friendly luck to the various teams he joins.
“I am delighted to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket and its business side, I will also continue to be involved in the game I love and challenge myself in a new and different environment. I believe this is the next step in my journey as a cricketer and I look forward to the next chapter in my life and wish all my teammates the best of luck to all the teams I play for.
Ankit Rajpoot records second-highest figures in IPL history for a player not playing for the national team
Ankit Rajpoot was part of the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy winning Uttar Pradesh team. The pacers took 14 wickets in 9 games, including 3/30 in the final against Baroda. He started his IPL career in 2013 after being picked by Chennai Super Kings and played only two games that season.
Ankit then joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 and took 7 wickets in two seasons. The bowler later moved to Kings XI Punjab in 2018. This record was broken by Akash Madhwal during the IPL 2023 season.
Overall, Rajput played 29 IPL matches and took 24 wickets. However, he has not played a game since IPL 2020 and also failed to sell in the auction recently. He was part of the Lucknow Supergiants squad in IPL 2022 but did not play in the match.
