Archie Vaughan follows in the footsteps of his father Michael and is appointed captain of the England U19 national team
Archie Vaughan has followed in the footsteps of his father Michael and been named captain of the England Under-19s.
Warne Sr. led his country in 51 Tests, including the famous 2005 Ashes victory, but he first led his country at under-19 level in 1993/94.
Son Archie, who broke into the Somerset side as an all-rounder last season, has now claimed the same honor during the upcoming tour of South Africa.
His team will face the Proteas in three youth ODIs and two youth Tests in Cape Town and Stellenbosch from January 17 to February 6.
“Having the opportunity to represent England at this level is special in itself, but to lead the team out is another matter,” said the 19-year-old.
“If someone had told me 12 months ago that I would be forcing my way into the Somerset first team and captaining the under-19s, I wouldn’t have believed them.
“It all happened very quickly, but I will keep my feet on the ground and work harder.
“The next step is to try and win in South Africa and hopefully I can do well as well.”
The 18-man squad, managed by head coach Michael Yardy, includes 16-year-old spinner Farhan Ahmed, the younger brother of England international Rehan, backup Rated leg-spinner Tazeem Ali and Durham's rising speed star James Minto.
