Arsenal has designated a potential signing for Mikel Arteta’s absolute “dream” scenario, as the Gunners are keen to secure their signature after hearing bad news about key targets.
Andrea Berta’s promising start as Arsenal sporting director
Andrea Berta has already started her life in N5, with Italian sports director sealing Martin Zubimendi signing from Real Sociedad for a total of about £55 million (Fabrizio Romano).

The 53-year-old also completed the £5 million arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, with the Spaniard swapping Stamford Bridge for North London, a very sharp move by Berta to secure a capable David Raya alternative.

Fabrizio Romano now confirms this, with all documents “sealed” all of Kepa’s documents, which became Arsenal’s second informal signing after Zubimendi.
Arteta’s engine room and goalkeeper choices got good quality, but according to Romano again, Real Madrid striker Rodrygo, who is £205,000 a week, is another person on Berta’s agenda.
The Brazil international is priced at around £77m and has a high salary, so he might be an expensive deal, but Romano firmly believes that Arsenal puts him on the shortlist for their broad targets.
Arsenal’s ‘Dream’ Signed Rodrigo for Mikel Arteta
The respected journalist said on his personal YouTube channel that Arsenal’s “dream” signed Rodrigo, and Nico Williams in particular seemed more likely to join Barcelona.
Williams is Arsenal’s main target, and Berta even held talks with the Spaniard’s representative based on the “first action” of Guardian’s Ed Aarons as sporting director, but his move to London is now considered “impossible”.
“Arsenal, Rodrygo. When I say, Arsenal, it’s about management, it’s about coaching, it’s about Mikel Arteta.”
“They think Rodrygo is a great player and a dream goal, and it’s also because they feel it’s impossible for Nico Williams to arrive this summer. Rodrygo, who is certainly still a strong name on Arsenal’s roster.”
The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals and 11 assists throughout all competitions in 2024/2025, including the Club World Cup, although Rodrygo’s elite-level experience is a big positive progress, although hardly reaching his championship.
The challenge behind any move by Rodrygo is both the finances involved and convinced him to leave the most attractive destination of world football so that he can start completely new in the Premier League, but Arsenal’s serious interest is clear.
