A large number of heartbreaking people highlighted the last day of our Open qualifiers on Monday. But you can say the smartest ones are the UPS drivers in Maryland. His dream of opening up in the United States was shattered when he made a rare and painful scorecard mistake.
Qualifier Nick Barrett was disqualified when he forgot to hand over his scorecard after the first round of the qualifiers, which he described to Baltimore Sun Edward Lee is “complete intestine”.
This is what you need to know.
UPS driver DQ comes from the US Open Qualifier
Barrett, 31, of Carsonville, Maryland, played his final qualifying match in the North course at the Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. It was one of 10 different final qualifiers on Monday, all of which had 36 holes.
Barrett is one of 84 golfers in the Woodmont qualifiers, capturing four spots at the 2025 U.S. Open in Oakmont next week.
Barrett still had a chance after his first round, shooting 73 shots in his first 18 holes. However, this score will never become formal.
After his round, Barrett went through a shock and went for lunch. In his pocket is the first round scorecard. He was supposed to sign it and immediately handed it over to the scorer’s tent after his circle.
“I stood up while having a hot dog or lunch, I felt my back pocket, I felt the scorecard,” Barrett told Baltimore Sun“Once I do this, my heart goes straight to the bottom of my stomach.”
Barrett then went to the scorer’s tent, but it was too late. His match partner has signed their scorecards in the last 20 minutes, and the next set is over.
The USGA officials present had no choice but to disqualify Barrett and officially ended his hopes at the U.S. Open.
He told sun It was “It’s such a shame that I can’t get back there”, and although he can’t blame others, it’s “complete intestine.”

2 PGA Tour stars suffer heartbroken in US Open Qualifiers
Although Barrett was a fairy-tale long shot in the U.S. Open qualifying, several big PGA Tour stars also experienced heartbreak.
In the qualifiers at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club in Ohio, Max Homa and Rickie Fowler both lost the five-man playoffs, missing out on winning the game in the finals of six U.S. Open finals.
