Hurricane Morning: Brind’amour, Slavin and Orlov meet with the media – Hockey Writer – Carolina Hurricane

The Carolina Hurricanes entered tonight’s game 1-0 in the first round series against the New Jersey Devils and hope to head to Newark, New Jersey to rise 2-0. After the first game win, the Hurricane appears to have controlled the series and will try to bring that momentum into Game 2. On Tuesday morning, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’amour, defenders Jaccob Slavin and Dmitry Orlov met with the media to discuss the next team.

Rod Brind’amour

Asked about Taylor Hall and the locker room he brought to already has great leadership, Brind’Amour told THW: “I think he’s coming in and just fit, not wanting to really do too much. I think it’s a key thing, it’s an important thing, just playing with someone like that.”

Hall has been there and has done it in the playoffs. He scored 8 points in the first round in the 2022-23 game against the Boston Bruins. He had two assists in the first game and was one of the best forwards in the Hurricanes beyond two goals.

The second line with the second hall with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Andrei Svechnikov could get the team further. He also had a 33.3% success rate in Game 1 in the highest Power League team. Brind’Amour also noted that there will be no changes in the lineup.

Jaccob Slavin

Slavin was asked how the team and assistant coach Tim Gleason expects to maintain their defender structure in the playoffs and noted, “We just keep the hammer down, and we don’t really change much. I think we just emphasize more and more what we do as a d-core. If making sure we’re tight through the neutral zone, keeping tight gaps and making sure reads are right, whether we’re pinching in the o-zone. Because there are a lot of times in the regular season you can get hosted if you do a bad pinch during the playoffs, you just can’t do these types of readings, so make sure we’re all checking in and highlighting how we’re going to be D core.”

The Hurricane managed to limit the chances of the Devil in Game 1. Goalkeeper Frederik Andersen faced 24 shots throughout the game, and the Hurricanes largely locked in Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier, most of the time – the Devils scored only goals. The devil set fire to cover his hair before they returned to New Jersey.

When asked to stick to your game without participating in extracurricular activities, Orlov said, stay strong in your mind. Trust yourself and your teammates, trust them and help them. It’s experience, you know how to deal with certain things. Just make sure you calm down in your mind and you should focus and not lose confidence.

This could be Olof’s final playoff with the Hurricanes, as he will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He and Jalen Chatfield are five in total after Game 1 and are the second defensive pairing for the entire Hurricane. As long as they keep up with this level of play, the team should be able to stay strong and impose their will in the second game.

Tuesday night’s big match 2

The Hurricanes will lead 2-0 before heading to New Jersey for Game 3 on Friday. If they stick to their game plan, they should be able to keep their momentum in the second game, which determines the rhythm and style of the game. Fireworks between the two teams are expected to leave their mark on the series tonight.
