Former India opener Aakash Chopra recently opened up about the new guidelines issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding team travel from hotels to stadiums.
Recently, BCCI made it mandatory for all players to travel in team buses, which means no individual is allowed to travel alone. The change in guidelines came after India lost 1-3 to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series.
Chopra predicted that the rules may change for some players, which is why the board had to make a special announcement. He also lashed out at the players and coaches involved in the incident, accusing them of “causing huge harm” to Indian cricket.

Aakash Chopra breaks silence on BCCI's new rule changes
Aakash Chopra, while speaking on his YouTube channel, spoke about BCCI's new rule changes, which also involve players traveling to the stadium together in team buses. Chopra welcomed the board's decision but wondered why it had to be announced specifically, since it's normal for players to travel on team buses.
“The first report that I liked was that all the players were going to travel on the team bus, and I thought that was going to happen forever. The team bus was named the team bus because the whole team would be on the bus. Team bus trip.
“At least before we played cricket, the team used to travel only in the team bus. It was a normal thing. It was the standard of the stadium. It had to happen like that,” he observed.
“It's like telling someone you'll have breakfast instead of lunch in the morning. However, if you say that, it means some rules have changed, especially for some people,” he added.
Akash Chopra slams players for 'causing huge harm'
Talking further about the topic, Aakash Chopra claimed not to know the players involved in these matters but slammed him for causing harm to Indian cricket. He also believes that the incident would not have happened without the coach's approval and said he bears equal responsibility for it happening.
“Whoever did this has made a small joke on Indian cricket and done a huge disservice because how can you treat people differently, otherwise you wouldn't treat them differently , instead giving the entire team a stipend to drive 15 separate vehicles.
“So somewhere, the coach or the team management allows this to happen, whichever way you go, and then we can meet on the field. That is completely wrong,” the former India batsman added road.
How have the rules changed for travel in India?
Recently, India head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Rohit Sharma and draft committee chairman Ajit Agarkar met with BCCI officials at the board's headquarters in Mumbai to discuss the team's performance in Australia.
Team leaders have been told to go back to basic protocols of traveling on buses with their teams rather than choosing to travel alone. When players are on their home planet, they often attempt to travel to the surface alone in their respective vehicles.
