Augusta, Georgia – Hello, friends and a happy Monday in Augusta Country! I wrote to you from the News Building, which is open for press conferences and can work even if the courses are closed due to rain. I stayed in Augusta for the eighth day of 14 days and I was ready to compete in the Masters! A few of my colleagues joined me the next week and we were all energetic.
I first competed in the Driving, Chip and Putting Finals on Sunday, which was the ideal way to start Masters Week. There can be a lot of pressure to make up for the big tournament in a week, but watching a bunch of talented (just adorable) kids spend their lives in Augusta National, alleviating any anticipated anxiety I had for the next seven days.
Driver, chip and pushrod winner
Augusta Nationals Sunday must be one of the healthiest days for golf. Not only did we have past champions playing with loved ones, we had little kids cheering each other, hugging parents after big putts, and having iconic interviews.
Hello everyone! Hope you have a great Sunday. Here are some adorable kids who are 100 times better than the rest of us on golf pic.twitter.com/nscfy7rlzg

Let’s get a little bit of the winners of each age, okay?

Ellie Kim
Ellie Kim won 7-9 divisions in his debut, Chip and putting appearance. Her father introduced her to golf during her time at Coovid, and it is safe to say that what remains is history.
“I worked hard for it. My dad sacrificed a lot for me and I really appreciate him for this moment… We practiced every day and I felt the hard work would pay off… Just in Augusta it means a lot to me because there aren’t really many people here.
Now, my favorite Augusta content so far this week. King’s competitor hurriedly hugged her as she found herself winning the age group and the video was so rewarding. These little kids have such excellent sportsmanship!
King’s role model was her father and Taylor Swift and learned about fans who made me even more fans. Kim, If You Are Reading This Book: What Are Your Favorite Taylor Swift Songs?
Bella Simoes
Next we will have Bella Simoes, who won the 10-11 division in a dramatic way.
When they finished the final at Augusta National, all competitors were asked a series of questions, and Simoes gave the most thoughtful and detailed answers. Let’s take a look.
What is the most difficult thing in golf?
“Accept you have no control over everything.”
Who is your favorite male golfer and why?
“My favorite male golfer is Tiger Woods, because he completely transformed the golf game with unparalleled skills, determination and charm. His achievements, including 15 major championships, have inspired countless fans and players around the world. Apart from his success in the course, Tiger’s resilience and ability to overcome challenges make him a true legend of the sport. ”
Who is your favorite female golfer and why?
“My favorite female golfer is Nelly Korda because she has been showing outstanding talent, calmness and athleticism on the golf course. Her strong swing, precision and performance under pressure make her one of the top players in the world. Plus, her sporting spirit and dedication to the game are really inspiring.”
Who is the coolest player in golf and why?
“The coolest player in golf is Nelly Korda, who dominated the game because of her grace and confidence. Her smooth swing, calm manner under pressure and ability to deliver clutch performances set her apart. Aside from the game, Nelly’s style and professionalism have made her a role model, inspiring young golfers around the world.”
What food will you serve in the Masters Championship dinner and why?
“Shrimp Alfredo Pasta.”
Simoes certainly has a future career in golf and Inspiring speech.
Alexandra Finn
Alexandra Phung won his second drive Sunday after the 18th Green hard putt, Chip and putt.
Phung won the 10-11 points division in 2023, which is awesome because she can say she won two wins at Augusta National before her 14th birthday.
Pen may be familiar with Augusta, with Chip and putting rivals once at: she competed here in 2019, 2021 and 2023. When asked who her favorite male golfer was, she gave a very sweet answer.
“The Lion King, my brother, because he is a great sibling and a great man. He sacrificed a lot of time to help me, traveling through small balls and golf.”
This is hope my siblings talk about me today.
Abigail Henriksen
Abigail Henriksen won the championship debut in the 14-15-year-olds in the 15-foot race.
I hope Henriksen’s classmate will give her a proper celebration when she gets home.
Now for the boys department.
Joshua Hooper
Joshua Hooper won the 7-9-year-old teacher, who may have to thank his golf superstition. Chip and Putt Championship said he had to listen to “Thunderstruck” on his way to the course before he entered the competition, which was incredible, considering the song was released at least 25 years before he was born.
Hooper is a man with a few words in the winning interview. Until the point! I respect it.
There is nothing we can do, but we can help. Joshua, we will wait for your waiting. Congratulations on the great victory! https://t.co/9fbildzsv3

I really hope Hooper wins the Masters in about 20 years, because his Theory Masters Championship dinner menu is perfect.
“Fried squid, for apps, beef salt dinglong for dinner, Oreo blizzard from dairy queen.”
Dawson Dial
Dawson’s dial won the division between 10-11 and said he wanted to stay up all night (only his father allowed him of course) to celebrate.
I remember planning to stay up all night as a kid and then fall asleep before midnight, so I was wondering if Dial was done all night. I have to imagine that he was tired after his victory at Augusta National! I hope he wins as an adult because the championship dinner menu he thought of was incredible.
What food will you serve in the Masters Championship dinner and why?
“Chesy bread sticks, pasta with lasagna, cheese ravioli and various noodles with meat, alfredo and marinara sauce, and salad sticks. For desserts, I’ll have ice cream cookies (chocolate or vanilla) on the cooking, on the cooking.”
Hudson Justus
Hudson Justus won his driver chip and putter final history in his 12-13 division victory, but my hug of my father makes me remember the most.
When Justus announced his victory, Justus was already in his father’s arms, and his tears showed how much the championship meant for the children’s game.
Anthony Wu
Anthony Wu was inspired to qualify for the finals of the match, chips and putting after watching her sister Kaylee play in 2022.
Bernhard Langer’s new whip
My colleague Emma Devine, Zephyr Melton and I headed to the West Lake Country Club in Augusta to chat with Bernhard Langer.
Melton asked Lange several questions related to the Master, but I couldn’t stop starting at the new Mercedez-Benz, as he was in honor of his 41st and final start at Augusta.
Some details about the whip: This is a one-time personalized S-Class with the embroidered master logo, which is made with over 2800 stitches. It also has Langer’s signature in the center console.
Let’s take a look at the journey.

The interior of the car is so cool. The removable Master headrests (even though I’m Langer, I’ll never delete them) include not only the Masters logo, but the years Langer wins.

The center console is probably my favorite part. Whenever Langer lowered his head into his phone, put the water bottle down or adjust the temperature, he would think of his two masters’ victory.

I’d love to come up with a similar gift for years from now on.
