Big Caddy Changes will send shockwaves through PGA Tour

If everything that is the best golfer in the world seems rare to change caddies, it is because it is because it is rare.

Scottie Scheffler and Ted Scott have become the most successful duo in the world. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy has put Harry Diamond on his schoolbag for most of the decade. Xander Schauffele’s third place, Xander Schauffele, works with Austin Kaiser as long as she goes on tour. If you’ve seen Jon Rahm, you’ve seen his caddie, Adam Hayes. Enter the world’s fourth Collin Morikawa, who will put Joe Greiner on a bag starting with next week’s Truist title. The news was first reported by Colt Knost, meaning the end of Morikawa’s partnership with JJ Jakovac is his only caddie as a professional player.

This is the third time that Greiner has made a big splash in the world of golf in recent weeks.

First off, separated from long-time boss and close friend Max Homa, who worked hard for the biggest moment of his career.

“I mean, it’s not my choice, so it sucks,” Homa said at the Masters. “But he always has a deal, we are our friends, friendship is more important than the things at work, and he is wise enough to do what he does.”

Greiner then picked up a couple for Justin Thomas, his caddie, Minister Matt “Rev” and came out with a back injury. The first starting point was in the Masters, and the second was the legacy of RBC, which turned into Thomas’ first victory in the last three seasons. After the victory, Thomas had to close speculation that he would hire Greiner full-time.

“We both know to come in,” Thomas said on Siriusxm/PGA Tour Radio. “It’s a very fill situation. We’re lucky that Joe is available until Rev gets healthy. I love Joe dies, but I’m so glad to be back.”

So starting next week, Greener will jump from Thomas, currently ranked No. 5 to Morikawa, currently ranked No. 4.

Morikawa’s move sent two clear messages.

First of all, he is not satisfied with his current level of competition. He has been involved in the PGA Tour again and again since the fall of 2023 and has not joined his major run since winning the 2022 Open Championship.

The second is his high view of Greiner. That didn’t make him unique; Greiner was a beloved and respected figure on the tour – not to mention a talented player. But the fact of the Morikawa deal is very, very good suggests that he thinks that a partnership with Greiner may have a chance to be Great.

Morikava and Grena know each other very well. Homa and Morikawa are good friends, Cal Bears, have been practice mates for years and compete together in team events. They also shared a coach, Mark Blackburn, in a short time. To be sure, Greiner already knows Morikawa’s game very well.

Homa has been working with veteran Caddy Bill Harke, who finished with its encouraging T12 Masters.
