

Boyne Golf’s Josh Richter is named 2025 Michigan PGA Golf Executive of the Year
Michigan Port Springs – Boyne Resorts Josh Richter, PGA, senior vice president of golf operations, has been named Golf Director of the Year by the Michigan PGA department. As one of the highest distinctions awarded by the PGA department, this honor is recognized by PGA golf professionals through multi-portal course management, ownership operations, Allied associations or executive leadership. Recipients demonstrate excellent leadership and vision while having a considerable track record of service for associations and golf games.
Richter has been attending an intern at Boyne Resorts since 1999, while also attending the PGM Golf Management Program at Ferris State University. He currently serves as senior vice president of golf operations, overseeing various aspects of Boyne Golf’s 14 courses nationwide, including at Bay Harbour Golf Club and Crooked Tree Golf Club and Crooked Tree Golf Club, 5 in the Highlands, including the new three-pole Doon Brae, and two in Boyne Mountain. In addition, Maine also has the Sunday River Golf Club and Sugarloaf Golf Club, as well as the Big Sky Golf Course in Montana. This includes overseeing numerous golf games every year, including the Michigan State Championship, Adidas State Pro-AM and Drive, Chip & Putt Local Qualifications. He also serves as president of Born and Bay Harbor Golf Club Country Club Club Club Club.
During his tenure, Richter led many teams to train and mentor golf professionals, including hiring 40 PGM students to intern at Boyne Golf. Many students have become general managers, principal professionals, golf college business owners and other golf industry leaders. Richter’s team and cultural building style are on display in his “Best Practice” article written in PGA Magazine September 2018 magazine.
“It’s a huge honor to be selected as Michigan PGA Executive of the Year in 2025, especially many of the great operators in the Michigan PGA section,” Richter said. “This award is a testament to the great staff we have in the golf department who played an important role in why they were selected for the award. I would like to thank them and the PGA Special Awards Committee for recognizing that we received the award.”
Richter’s leadership is not just at Born Golf Course. He is an active first tee- Northern Michigan board member and has been chairman of the board since January 2024. He also participated in the Summer Golf Capital Committee in the United States and was a prominent figure in the annual Port Cup event, raising more than $1 million for local charities since its inception in 1997.
