West London Club gave Andrews a three-year contract. This was his first job as a manager. One season, he served as a suit coach at Brentford. Andrews said he felt “very humble” and “honest” to be selected to lead the club into its “next chapter.”
Brentford football director Phil Giles said Andrews was “very suitable”. He added that Andrews was “very open” and “learner” “here”. Giles noted that Andrews “has clear what he wants” and that the players and staff “like and respect him.” He also said Andrews understands the players and how they train under Frank. Giles hopes Andrews can “progress quickly” while bringing his own “evolution”.
Thomas Frank, who managed Brentford for seven years, led the club to the top flight for the first time in 74 years. He makes them a strong team in the Premier League. Frank left Tottenham’s Ange Postecoglou, who recently won the Europa League. Frank brought some staff to Tottenham, but Andrews stayed in Brentford. This hints at his future role in the club.
Andrews, 44, made 35 appearances for Ireland during his game career. He started working as an assistant manager at MK Dons and finished the competition in 2015. He then joined the Ireland team under 21 as an assistant coach. When Stephen Kenny became manager of the senior team in Ireland in 2020, Andrews went with him. The two of them stayed until Kenny’s contract ended three years later. In July 2024, Andrews was part of Chris Wilder’s coaching staff at Sheffield United before joining Brentford as a suit coach from December 2023.
After Frank’s success, Andrews faces a huge challenge. However, Frank also started his management position in Brentford with limited experience. The club is looking for Andrews to not only keep the game going, but also to help the team get better. Andrews expressed excitement about “the potential of football clubs, the potential of players and the potential of employees.” He also emphasized his love for “cultivating young players” and saw their “growth”.
The club may face further changes this summer. Reports suggest striker Bryan Mbeumo may “probably” leave, with Manchester United linked to a deal worth about £63 million. Brentford captain Christian Norgaard is also expected to join Arsenal for about £10m. Goalkeeper Mark Flekken was also left to Bayer Leverkusen.
