The injured Vancouver Canucks faced the struggling New Jersey Devils Monday night. Both teams are in a situation of destruction and failure, and urgently need to win. Thankfully for the Canucks, they won the 4-3 gunfight. But the Devil still grasped a key point in the game. Thatcher Demko scored 22 saves when returning from injury – his seventh win of the season. They rose to 33-26-12; the devil fell to 37-28-7.
Both teams were even good in the first half of the opening frame, but the Ganaks hit the ball first: Pius Suter opened the score with a training session. When Timo Meier tied it to the power play, the score remained 1-0 until halfway through the second time.
They entered the third still knotted until Meyer scored again to keep the red. But just 38 seconds later, Jonathan Lekkerimaki tied it together. Then just one and a half minutes later, Erik Haula slammed the rebound to restore the Devil’s lead. It looks like the devil will escape, but Sut tied it with the extra attacker.
Overtime is back and forth, but the game ultimately requires gunfights. That was also back and forth until Lekrimaki scored in the fourth round to win the game.

The Canucks will resume action against the New York Islanders on Wednesday (7:30 ET); the Devils will also play at the same time as they head to Chicago to take over the Blackhawks.
