Chelsea must have had problems with their goals this season. The Blues have some of the best scorers in the Premier League, finding the back of the net in 63 games, but sometimes they certainly have some shortcomings.
According to the understatement, their expected goal is a huge achievement. Enzo Maresca’s team has an expected target of 70.51 xg, meaning they are behind eight goals after this semester. Of the two sides with 60 or more goals, they are the most unlikely targets.
Well, maybe the reason for their recent struggles may be in the form of Cole Palmer.
Palmer’s recent form for Chelsea
Although Jamie Carragher described Palmer as “the best player in the Premier League” in October, it was a lean form for the England International.
He has certainly seen the number of targets and assists drop in recent weeks.
Overall, from a goal and assist perspective, the word is fruitful again for Palmer. He has managed 24 of these mergers in total and has played 36 games for the Blues in the Premier League.
However, the 22-year-old did have a long drought in his goal recently. In fact, he did not score, participated in 12 games, and only received three assists at that time. He ended the game with a 3-1 victory against Liverpool.
Palmer’s goal drought has certainly affected Chelsea’s struggle in the face of goals, but perhaps the fact that it’s difficult to achieve the goal from elsewhere. Nicolas Jackson is the only person to score double-digit goals this season, according to Sofascore.
Given that Palmer created 23 big opportunities, it seems that they need another appearance to make their amulet unplayable again. They recently had connections with someone who could provide answers to the struggle.
Can help resolve Chelsea’s goal drought signing
So it seems that the Blues do need a ninth to help put the ball into the back of the net more often. Well, as BBC Sports’ Nizaar Kinsella reported earlier this week, it was the move by one of the tightest forwards, Victor Osimhen, “not yet ruled out.”
The striker was estimated at £64m by Tuttosport last month and may just be the one Chelsea has solved the problem in front of a goal. He currently enjoyed a successful season before his goal at Galatasaray, who was on loan from Napoli.
This semester, the Nigerian International team achieved 33 amazing goals in 38 matches of the Turkish club, including 6 of which were seven Europa League games. These include two strikes against Chelsea’s London rival Tottenham Hotspur.
The 26-year-old certainly has to focus on his goals, as did his Naples career. He scored 76 goals in the famous Gli Azzurri blue shirt and played in just 133 games. Scudetto’s award-winning season in 2022/23 allowed him to find his back with 26 net rebounds in 32 games.
Osimhen’s base figures in the last 365 days (provided by FBREF), which shows why he can help Chelsea score more goals and take Palmer to a higher level as he creates all the opportunities. For example, the forward averaged 0.88 goals per game, which put him in the top 4% of Europe.

There is no doubt that the £64 million required to sign Osimone is reportedly a huge investment, but for Bruce, it may be a necessary investment. Palmer is an opportunity-creating machine, with the forward’s record and excellent basic statistics, he is probably the one who gets him to a height and ends all the opportunities he creates.
It seems like a deal that Chelsea needs to complete to beat the others. As Statman Dave said, he is currently the “best forward in the market” and the Blues can’t miss it at all.
