Vokey’s latest wedge work releases modern spread issues

As the iron loft has become stronger over the years, the new length of golf demands has created problems between the iron and wedge kit.

Titleist’s wedge experts have seen this trend, offering a 48-degree trend that even for 46-degree stocks since 2012’s SM4, players can replace their pitching wedges or fill the gap between irons and wedges.

But while Titleist’s own T100 iron has a tilted wedge matching the Vokey retail 46.10F (46-degree standard), the rest of the manufacturers’ T-Series Irons stand out from Vokey’s retail offerings. The T150 has a pitch wedge of 44 degrees, while the T200 and T350 have a wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge wedge.

Now this is about to change. Vokey aims to help players with stronger Lofted Irons clearance by introducing Vokey Wedgeworks 44F pitching wedges.

“Vokey 46 is such a huge number of tour players and amateurs, it’s such a valuable club,” Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill said in a press release. “It provides a profile that Vokey Wedge Player likes, creating the right bounce and grinding of launches and rotations, as well as the consistency of carrying numbers with you. As the loft becomes stronger on the iron box, we need a low head to avoid the sacrifice of strengthening the 46.”

What’s this:

Vokey Wedgeworks 44F Pitching Wedge is a stronger version of the company’s 46.10F pitching wedge, which will help players of higher suits improve the gap across the bag.

“The 44F is a much-needed option for our players because it helps achieve the right yardage with the right look, feel and performance,” Deer said.

The sole is a 10-degree bounce F-Grind found on Vokey’s other pitch wedges and gap wedges, designed to enhance the turf interaction of the fully volatile mirror.

Why it’s cool:

Due to the spin benefits of Vokey’s grooves, many Titleist tourers prefer to use the Vokey Pitching Wedge, which helps prevent flyers and adds rebound on the soles for better interaction.

Previously, if players needed a wedge wedge above 46 degrees to match their iron kit for clearance, they would have to grab the 46 degrees head and bend strength, which would increase the offset and eliminate the rebound, making the wedge easier to dig.

“When the player does not have enough bounce, the vertical impact position may usually be higher, which results in smaller rotation and higher heights,” Deer said.

Players can now choose 44 degrees while increasing the rebound and reducing the offset.

Who is:

If you have a set of irons with threaded wedges shaped in 45 degrees or stronger, and you have enough tricks to play blade-like pitch wedges, or like to use your pitch wedge specifically as a short game club, the new Wedgeworks 44F might be for you.

44F is already in the bag of PGA Tour champion Wyndham Clark. Several other Tour professionals also plugged in more powerful Vokey pitch wedges as they took advantage of the stronger elevated rail kit.

“Windham initially bounced down in the strength of the 46.10f bend. In softer conditions, his strikes tend to be higher than the best option, which is the way we are trying to eliminate,” Deer said. “The 44F’s slightly weak curved is a perfect fix. It gives him more bounce and helps him keep flying, and we stay in a profile that fits his eyes. This increases confidence because he knows he can actively hit the turf and believes he will get the results he wants. This is an adjustment we can’t make with a 46-degree head.”

She was also in Lydia Ko’s bag when she won 44F last weekend at LPGA’s HSBC Women’s World Championships.

Professional pitching wedges are certainly not everyone’s, as they are less forgiving than pitching wedges in typical game modification suits. But for those who are stable enough, this may be a real help in precision.
