Cobra’s DS-Adapt LS Lons Long Drive Head was asked at the engineer’s stop, “Should we? And send them all.”
On a recent trip to Cobra headquarters in Carlsbad, I had the opportunity to test the new DS-Adapt LS Lons Long Drive Clubhead…and, arguably, I haven’t seen such a ball speed since I was in my twenties.
Now, I’m not a delusion. I know I’m not Kyle Berkshire. But for a brief moment, especially when I looked down at the ball towards 170 mph, I felt that I could at least borrow his driver. This is the club: a dedicated tool for players with speed, rotation and swing mechanisms to handle it.
No doubt: This is not your everyday gamer. The head is a 6-degree lift rocket launcher developed with three-time world long-time champion Kyle Berkshire. Its design is pure speed, and everything from shape to center of gravity screams “go”.
Built at maximum speed
DS-Adapt LS Long Drive Head is a more compact version of the already low-rotated DS Adapt LS. At 445cc it retains the same volume, but has a 2mm deep face and a shorter profile with a shorter front and back. Those small tweaks have a big impact on performance. Specifically, more facial flexion and more forward CG can really juice and cut and rotate.

I definitely noticed my test speed, but that’s the tradeoff: I also saw Apex Heights about 50 feet, spinning to 1400 rpms. Great for long drive mesh. This is not a good thing for real-world golf. Reality comes when you start hitting a low bullet that barely stops in the air. I’m not Kyle. I’m not 25 years old. I won’t wave 150 mph.
Confidence in chaos
Where this head goes beyond pure performance is confidence. That larger face area gave me more goals, and Cobra’s team told me that this is a big part of what Berkshire wants. When you go all out, you don’t want to feel like you’re threading a needle. You want to feel like you are playing a billboard.
Despite my lower swing speed than Kyle’s “couple” gear, the head still feels very stable. You can tell Cobra not only to hit a 6-degree loft sticker on a regular LS, but to call it every day. This thing is the purpose.
FutureFit33: The Most Adjustable Hosel Cobra Ever
Cobra’s new FutureFit33 Hosel System is the absolute game changer. Earlier this year, you could debut in the DS-Adapt family, where you can adjust the loft and lie down independently, giving you 33 unique accessories combinations. You need flexibility when you play extremes such as 6-degree heads and ridiculous speeds. FF33 provides a Hosel system that can keep up with.

This is a wise move for such a head. You need to dial in the settings accurately, especially since you will be customizing with the axes…this is what this version encourages. The head is sold separately ($599) and comes with a scalp, wrench and two additional FutureFit33 adapters so you can build it around your own axis settings. This is for tinkerers, gear addicts and speed freaks. (My people!)
Special weapons, not daily drivers (for me)
Look, this head is not suitable for everyone. Hell, that’s not even for me…at least not at my local Mooney on Saturday morning. But as a gear pin, a quick chaser, and someone who appreciates what Cobra does for our game’s high-speed niche, it’s an explosion.

Yes, for my gamers, I’ll stick to close to 10.5 degrees. But testing the DS-Adapt LS Long Drive Head reminds me of how fun this game can be when you push the limits, even if your startup monitor is immediately humbled.
If you’re a competitor for fast swing, long-distance driving, or just a gear fan with speed itching, this head should be tested. Just make sure you bring swing speed and confidence to handle it.
