Conference Alliance Overview: Panathinaikos Edge Thriller

Panathinaikos beat Fiorentina 3-2 in the last 16 tie in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night.

The Greek side never won a major European honor – lost to the 1971 European Cup final at Wembley – but put itself in trouble with a victory over Italy.

Fiorentina lost the last two league finals, thanks to goals from Karol Swiderski and Nemanja Maksimovic.

But Lucas Beltran, then Nicolo Fagioli made the upgrade before the 25-minute mark, with only former Leicester forward Tete finding the winner.

If Chelsea gets along with Copenhagen’s tie and Norwegian wins 3-2, they will play Molde or Legia Warsaw, with Norwegian side having the advantage.

Manchester United’s lender winger Anthony once again was impressive in a entertaining 2-2 draw with Real Betis against Vitoria, while Cyprus’ European debut Pafos defeated Djurgarden 1-0.

The second leg of all tie will be done next Thursday night.
