Unai Emery praised his “outstanding” goalkeeper and defense as Aston Villa eliminated the 1-0 title in a Premier League battle against Brentford.
Shortly after the half, Ollie Watkins scored a goal on his former team to secure Villa’s victory at the GTECH Community Stadium and only had a second league victory in the last eight games.
Morgan Rogers saw a goal sweep offside as Emery, who had no preferred goalkeeper Emi Martinez, defended the tie firmly and scored a significant three-pointer.

Robin Olsen comes in to replace Martinez and his performance, as well as the performances of the four people in front of him, and is selected from Emery’s praise.
“We did a great job. We dominated the first half and created opportunities and we were willing to win,” Villa Boss said.
“In the second half, they forced us to defend in low obstacles and we needed the goalkeeper. He did a great job. The last four, they did a great job.”
Emery also stressed the importance of building momentum, entering their Champions League season two with 16-shot against Club Brugge, Villa led 3-1.
Emery’s side did not enter the league until April after that, and the Spaniard insisted that the victory would be good for morale.
“I’m very proud of the players,” Emory said. “We plan this game as key because we will be more or less playing in the Premier League in 25 days.
“It’s very important to try to make us more comfortable, confident, trust our way, compete today and try to get those three points.”
