Saudi professional league top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo has rested for the second straight game as al-Nassr hosted Al-Taawoun on Friday.
Real Madrid all-time scoring champion Ronaldo has played with defenders Mohamed Simakan and Aymeric Laporte as manager Stefano Pioli spins his team and throws the lead scorer with 23 goals in the division.
Ronaldo has provided public support to his teammates less than an hour before his Instagram account kicks off, the most watched account on social media platforms.

Why doesn’t Cristiano Ronaldo play for Al Nassr?
Al-Nassr has little to work for, and leader Al-Ittihad is beyond their reach, with its AFC Champions League campaign ending a 3-2 home loss against J League fighter Kawasaki in the semifinals on April 30.
Ronaldo rested before the match against Kawasaki but did not contribute directly to the goal in that game or in Al-Nassr’s subsequent 3-2 home win over Al-Ittihad.
According to Al-Riyadh, five-time Ballon d’Or champion Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s 9-0 victory in Al-Akhdoud on Monday because of “lack of preparation”.
The newspaper also reported that former Manchester City’s regular Laporte joined the city’s Al-Nassr for £23.6m in August 2023, and he has been training alone as Pioli has had “tightness” with Pioli and has considered several offers from clubs including Marseille, who qualified for Champions League in France on Saturday and prospects for at least one in France.

Jhon Duran – Signed from Aston Villa for £65m in January – Sadio Mane has been a two-time African footballer, joining Saudi Arabian winger Ayman Yahyan Yahyan Yahyan as Pioli chose the starting attacker against Al Taawoun, who will end between seventh and ninth.
Al-Taawoun has won one victory in all six games, including two consecutive defeats in top-tier matches.
The fourth of last season, Wolves had gone for nearly four hours without scoring Al-Ahli and al-Qadisiyah.

Ronaldo has been in the game for more than three and a half hours, with no league goals, but remains the top scorer in the Saudi professional league, followed by Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema – Madrid’s second-highest scorer in history – 21 years old.

Now 40, Ronaldo’s only league title since winning with Madrid in Laliga in 2017 was the Juventus title in 2019/20.

Ronaldo is said to have exceeded $1 billion (£771 million) in career income and two years later became the most eye-catching footballer to move to Saudi Arabia after leaving Manchester United in December 2022.
