Daniel Berger ranked fourth in pre-match betting odds for Palm Beaches 2025 Cognitive Classic. But after he had saved a miracle in the palm trees in the first hole on Thursday, he might have some motivation.

The veteran pro started his game on the par 5 of the PGA National’s Championship course. It should be an easy way to start his turn, but things get ugly.

On his first swing, Berger hit a drive around or so. It flew 345 yards, which was good, but the problem was its landing: deep in the foliage of the palm tree tops.

Berger couldn’t watch his ball, was forced to take a free throw and return to the serving area.

With stroke and distance charges, Berger is now standing on a 556-yard T-shirt with only three shots left to make par.

That was when the four-time PGA Tour champions went to work.

His second tee was safely landed on a fairway 293 yards from the T-shirt. But it brought him a long 260-yard goal. Berger sent that shot on the green, his fourth time. He left 24-foot chips from the rough spot.

Berger stared at the possible gay and potential doubles, popped the ball out of the rough spot, landed it into the hole, and watched it roll straight into the cup for an incredible chip chip.

The dramatic start of his game didn’t seem to shock Berg. Instead, it initiates the torrent.

He birded on the 11th hole and on the 15th and 16th holes. But he didn’t do it there. Berger then tore off four birdies from 18 to 3 and transfers them under 7 through his first 12 holes.
