Devin Haney revealed today that he will “return” to action in March after sitting out for 11 months. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) hasn’t revealed who his opponent will be, but it won’t be Ryan Garcia. His suspension is set to expire in April.

Whoever Haney chooses will test his chin. They will try to follow Garcia's blueprint in hopes of replicating his success without getting sued.

Return in March

Fans hope to see Haney take on Garcia or one of the top 140-pounders such as Alberto Puelo, Teofimo Lopez, Sandor Martin and Rolly Romero. It's unlikely that Devin will fight these guys because he's been out of the ring for so long and he needs to adjust. He should, but it's hard to predict what his father, Bill Haney, would want to do.

Since Haney has defeated Kingery on a three-fight losing streak, he needs to take his time fighting a weaker fighter before taking on someone with power.

Haney wasted nearly a year of his career after losing to Garcia (24 wins, 1 loss, 20 KOs) in a 12-round majority decision on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Devin later sued Ryan for testing positive for the PED Ostarine. The lawsuit is not over yet.

It will be interesting to see who Haney chooses, as he won't be getting paid a huge amount as a regular fighter unless Turki Sheikh chooses to put him on one of the cards. There are a lot of good fringe contenders and Devin can fight at the 140 and 135 levels, which would be ideal for him.

Haney looks lean in training photos, which suggests he could consider moving back to 135 to make life easier. He has less to worry about at lightweight than at light welterweight or at 147.

If Devin hasn't defeated the “Little Emperor” twice, George Kambosos Jr. will be an ideal choice to adjust. He posed no threat to his chin and had 12 one-sided boxing matches with him.
