Ovechkin’s 40th goal of the season represents the start of the game. Ten minutes after Washington’s opening ceremony, Blackhawks winger Tyler Bertuzzi tied for the game. He was a beneficiary of a good cycle game, and then made an accidental rebound on the side of the net, which allowed Landon Slaggert to slide the puck through the crease and pour Bertuzzi into the Nets for the first goal of the Blackhawks. The game entered its first interruption.
Chicago’s Frank Nazar opened the tie with a 31-second goal. The Blackhawks broke the party again with a 3-2 Chicago lead in 7:19 in the second stage. The Capital goalkeeper stopped in Slaggert’s deflection but couldn’t control the rebound, and Kurashev defeated Lindgren, defeating Lindgren. Chicago entered its second half, taking a 3-2 advantage.
Washington tied for three points with Chicago’s Connor Murphy’s goal early in the third phase after the defender hit his puck at the tennis ball. In his 894th regular season goal, he tied Gretzky as the far fewest game ever in NHL regular season history, with 1,486 NHL games in one game. When Ovickin tied Gretzky with Gretzky tonight, he broke the game with former teammate Jaromir Jagr to score his best win goal with a 136.

Ovechkin had a late chance to break Gretzky’s record in disconnection, but the Washington star couldn’t beat Knight late in the third phase. Ryan Leonard scored an empty net goal in front of the game’s most legendary shooter, scoring an empty net goal. Washington won Game 49 of the season, winning 105 points this season to keep pace with the Winnipeg Jets (108 points) and Dallas Stell (104) during the NHL president’s trophy game in the 2024-25 season.
Ovechkin’s next chance to break Gretzky’s goal-scoring record is this weekend. Washington visited New York Islanders on New York Island at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon as Ovechkin will focus on claiming one of the most immortal records in the NHL. Washington has six games left in the 2024-25 NHL season.
