The highway standoff has been one-sided over the past few years, with the Los Angeles Kings conquering the Southern California campaign. The Kings ended another season, as they dominated the Anaheim Ducks, defeating them 6-1 on Thursday night at the Crypto.com Arena. The Kings have won three games in four games against the Ducks this season, beating them 15-3-2 in the last 20 games.
The Kings won their 30th home victory of the season and won their scoring titles in 99 seasons. The special team played a major role when the Kings and Ducks received a total of 12 fines. The Kings dominate both sides, killing with 3/6 and 4/4 free throws in the power game.
Kevin Fiala scored twice, Andrei Kuzmenko collected three assists, and Darcy Kuemper stopped 24 assists in 25 strokes as the Kings continued to separate and added their lead in second place in the Pacific Division.
Game review
The free throws quickly began to roll as Ducks defender Radko Gudas won a tripping free throw in the game. A new look of the Kings PP1 unit consists of five forwards, as Kuzmenko has no time wasted when he finds Byfield in the unit.
Cutter Gauthier scored his fifth goal in three games, 1:46 in the second quarter, equalizing the Ducks’ match. It would be the only shot that beat Cooper as the Kings took over from there without looking back, scoring five straight points.
The king immediately responded to Gordil’s goal. Anze Kopitar deflected Mikey Anderson’s shot, thus restoring the lead. The King’s Power Game was delivered on the second time as Fiala found her own way through traffic on a counter at the top of the right circle. The Kings have not finished the second time, as Alex Laferriere showed some hand and eye-catching, knocking the puck out of the air in a defeat of Ducks goalkeeper Lukas Dostal, giving the Kings a 4-1 lead.
Fast start continuing in the third inning, Fiala will play the second strength game with a goal of 1:08. Another hand on the right spotted the back of the Nets, extending the Kings’ lead to four goals.
The entire third stage was the pure rule of the king, who controlled the entire period, essentially the ducks in the offensive zone. Jordan Spence removed one from the blue line, leaving it with 6-1 for more than 10 minutes left.
What’s next for the king and the duck
The Kings stay home and wait for the Colorado Avalanche who plays Nathan Mackinnon in an arena game Saturday (April 12), while the Ducks wait for the avalanche after Sunday for an extra day.
