The Florida Panthers signed a six-year winger Brad Marchand for Elliotte Friedman, worth $5.33 million (total $32 million).
Marchand traded from the Boston Bruins to the Florida Panthers and received a conditional 2027 second-round pick before the trade deadline. He immediately fits the Panthers and becomes an influencer in the second Stanley Cup, thus bringing back-to-back titles to the team.
How Marchand performs in 2024-25
Entering this season, Markand has been consistent. He posted 67 points in the 67-point season and was similar in speed before the deal with the Panthers. His 21 goals and 47 points were stable, but the Bruins struggled for the first time in years.

Marchand scored two goals and four points in his regular season games with the Panthers. However, when the playoffs began, he really made his presence feel himself and made trade a direct steal for Florida.
Marchand immediately became a factor, scoring three points in a five-game series defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He is Toronto Maple Leaf, he is the difference maker. He scored three goals and scored eight points, including one goal and Game 7 assists as the Panthers returned to Leaf.
Marchand held a quiet Eastern Conference final but once again dominated the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup final. He had six goals in the six finals, including two in Game 5. If it weren’t for Sam Bennett, Marchand probably had walked away with Conn Smythe Trophy as a playoff MVP.
What Marchand brings
At 37, it wouldn’t be Marchand five years ago scoring 32 goals and 80 points. He certainly wouldn’t be Malgard seven years ago, scoring 36 goals and a career-high 100 points. But in this Panthers, as long as he can be a playoff force, it doesn’t take him long.
That said, he is still one of the epithelials of the NHL left. He has the skills and experience to blend seamlessly into one of the first two lines, play in all situations and deliver when needed. Within a limited time frame, he is amazing for the Panthers and is perfect for Florida’s roster and culture.
How Marchand fits in Black Panther
Given his landing site, Markkand’s current skills are very suitable. He still has the ability to be a 25-goal, 60-point winger on the second line. By the time he arrived, he already had championship bloodlines and now he is almost the same game as last season. It gives the Panther an advantage over almost anyone.
His regular season contribution is important, but Marchand is playing in the playoffs. Running with the Panthers, he scored 10 goals and 20 points in 23 games, while he kept doing well, he was asked to do the same in his new dig.
If he could replicate the playoff run with the Panthers and the earlier playoff run with the Bruins, the signing was home run. There is always a risk to pay huge amounts of money to those who jump, jump over 40-year-olds, but Mount Malkan looks rejuvenated. It’s still possible that he’s a playoff power again, which could mean the difference between cups or busts.
