Germany defeated Slovenia 3-0 in the first match of the European U21 championship in Nick Woltemade’s hat trick.
The highly rated Stuttgart forward made his debut on the German senior team earlier this month, and his stock continued to rise, finding the Nets twice in the first half before jumping from free throws in the 82nd minute, giving his team three points in the opening game.
The 23-year-old, who scored a hat-trick in his final outing against Spain in Germany’s U21, maintained a deadly form before scoring the goal as England’s B-team rivals were convincing.
This is the biggest win in the tournament so far and establishes Germany as a serious contender to win three Lions titles.

Elsewhere, Group D has been in an exciting way with Ernest Poku, deep into the second half stop time for the Netherlands in a clash with Finland.
Casper Terho and Topi Keskinen gave Finland two goals before a heroic comeback after Oranje started again.
Luciano Valente’s deficit on the hour mark halved, while Poku completed the revival and found the Nets in the 93rd minute to ensure both sides took up a portion of the loot.
Meanwhile, Denmark started their campaign with a 3-2 victory over Ukraine.
Nazar Voloshyn opened the score after 22 minutes, but the game really came to life after an hour of smooth sailing for Clement Bischoff for the Scandinavians.
Maksym Braharu recovered Ukraine’s lead with 12 minutes, but goals from William Boving and William Osula turned the leader around, giving the Danes a significant three-pointer.
