coco goff She has been a force on the tour since the Asian Swing kicked off in Beijing last year, and some WTA legends believe the best is yet to come. In a recent outlook on the WTA website, Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova heaped praise on the Floridian.
Evert was clearly inspired by Gauff's recent match against world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, which Gauff won 6-4, 6-4 in the Fed Cup final.
“When I was watching the Yiga-Coco match, Coco was winning the forehand rally,” Evert said, according to the WTA Tour. “In that match, whoever has the better forehand wins the match. She Now in third place. It's not that far off I think she'll get there.
According to the WTA, Gauff may soon become world No. 1. If she wins the title with Sabalenka failing to reach the quarterfinals and Swiatek losing before the third round, she will rise to world No. 1 the day after the Australian Open.
Martina Navratilova also believes big things are coming for Gauff, who is currently ranked third, about 3,000 behind top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka point. Evert's biggest rival, the 18-time major champion, believes Gauff will win a major title in 2025.
“I think Coco will win a Grand Slam. Australia is probably her best chance. But she can win on any surface – clay, grass, hard courts, it doesn't matter.
Gauff, 20, won the U.S. Open in 2023.
