GOLFZON Tour's Tulsa beats Houston in Game 6

What started as a 12-team simulator golf match play tournament competing for a $150,000 grand prize is now a six-team tournament for the ultimate winner.

The first six games of the GOLFZON Tour, a new league featuring five players from 12 selected GOLFZON host facilities (9 in the United States, the others from London, Toronto and Mexico) have concluded Teams compete against each other in a series of tournaments, with one team winning the grand prize.

Orlando beat Louisville in Game 1 and Minneapolis beat Chicago in Game 2. Defeated Mexico in a match. Orlando won the sudden-death playoffs to advance to the semifinals.

In Game 6, Tulsa faced Houston in the second game of the tournament, with a spot in the semifinals at stake.

Format

The single-elimination tournament is currently underway. Teams of three connect simulators via the Internet in a match play format and compete head-on, with two of each team's three best players scoring on each hole. The number of yards played by female players is 85% of that of male players.

If there is a tie after 18 holes, the game will go into a sudden-death playoff in which all three players' scores will be counted. The first team to score lower than the other team on a hole wins.

GOLFZON Tour Game 6 Recap: Tulsa vs. Houston

In this GOLFZON Tour quarterfinal game, Tulsa and Houston face off at a must-choice venue: the Ocean Course at Kiawah Resort. Teams compete in real-time at their respective regional simulator locations.

Tulsa was one of four teams to receive a bye in the first round of match play during the qualifying phase, while Houston already had a head-to-head victory after defeating Mexico in Game 4.

Tulsa got off to a fast start, though, winning the first three holes to lead by three strokes. When Houston finally got one back in the fifth, Tulsa answered with another win in the sixth.

Houston won't go down that easily. With wins on holes 7 and 9, Houston cut Tulsa's lead to one point midway through the game.

But Tulsa's wins on holes 12 and 13 pushed their lead back to three with five holes remaining — a difficult deficit to overcome. Houston tried to rally with a win on the 15th hole, but when Houston failed to make a birdie putt on the 16th hole, Tulsa sealed the victory with a win and ended the match with a 3-2 win.

That means Tulsa is one of six teams still competing for the $150,000 grand prize and will face the winner of Minneapolis or Los Angeles in the GOLFZON Tour semifinals.
