Luka Doncic is still finding his way for the Los Angeles Lakers, but he is looking for a way to influence the game.
Basketball fans know Luka Doncic’s average of 19.3 points per game is much lower than his ability. But there is almost no reason to pay attention.
Luka Doncic’s deal comes as he recovers from a two-month layoff, so there’s a lot to do. He joins an impressive LA Lakers who have just played for the fourth straight game and he is certainly part of it.
His triple-double against the former team showed his all-around game, with his average rebounds and 6.7 assists. Despite being 1-9 from three games, he beat the Timberwolves 21-13-5.
Luka Doncic benefits the rest of the team
The moment it happened, the entire NBA world was obsessed with Luka Doncic’s trade, and the generation-old superstar was weirdly erratic by the Dallas Mavericks.
Doncic is still showing his form, and he is ineffective against Minnesota’s three-point shooting percentage, and he found other ways to reach 21 points.
Former Lakers star Robert Horry praised JJ Redick’s coach, and Luka Doncic’s multifaceted abilities to score in different ways, while pointing out the attention he has attracted.
Just like the outside attention to Doncic on the court, he attracted the attention of the opponent’s defense, which benefited his Lakers teammates, compared to his former teammate Shaquille O’Neal.
Horry told the Lakers post-match performance on Spectrum: “The way he played tonight was the way it happened in certain games. He wasn’t shy, he walked all the way to the hole, he kept causing contact, and to me, that’s one thing for you [need to] Do.
“You need to have a coach saying ‘You don’t shoot from three, go to the benefits of shelves’ because he has the ability to go to the shelves and open the area for different players.
“They broke down a lot with him and when he got there he was like a Shaq and everyone was going to look at him and break down and don’t let him score, all these guys would get the pot shot.
“I think if I were a player, I would say to him ‘Go on the shelf, kick out, I’m going to pick up some pots’.”
Horry’s comments are commendable. LeBron James scored 33 points, Austin Reaves added 23 points, and Jaxson Hayes was able to score 10.
Luka Doncic is back
It’s a tough situation for any player to settle in a new city and return from injury, and the Lakers are patiently waiting for their bonuses.
It’s obvious that there are signs that it’s working. The team is fourth in the Western Conference and is now heading towards the playoffs.
Former Lakers star James Worthy commented: “This isn’t your typical Luca game. He’s a little out of place, his first shot, about 0-7, and I still think he’s deforming, so it’s not his typical night, but there are still some moments we need him, he’s going through.”
