NHL Rumor: Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers

Vancouver Canucks have team options on Rick Tocchet

Thomas Drance of the Athlete: The Vancouver Canucks holds a team option for head coach Rick Tocchet next season, a team source said Canucks see Tocchet as head coach next season and they intend to exercise the option. Tocchet said he doesn’t want to talk about his contract situation right now because they focus on the playoffs.

“I think it’s better to wait for me, so we can really sit down and talk because I don’t have time to talk about my contract, and in a sense, you know…I’m all on this team right now,” Tocchet said in a recent radio interview with SportsNet 650.

“This happens at the right time. It’s really that way. I can’t really focus on these things. Every day we come in, we really focus on a lot of different things. I’m comfortable and I think they are the same. When the right time is, we can spend some time, we can spend some time where we are going, what we are going, etc.”

Tocchet reportedly earns $2.75 million per season. The Canucks may want to sign him in the offseason to sign him and he will get a good raise.

K’Andre Miller will get his expansion and find D companion for Adam Fox

Vince Z. Mercogliano of Lohud: 25-year-old New York Rangers defensive player K’andre Miller is a pending RFA. It was a season before and after for Miller, but it has been stable since the calendar turns.

Linked with defensive partner Will Borgan, who signed a five-year, $20.5 million contract extension shortly after being acquired. Miller is trying to stop his contract situation.

“I did a great job with the guard burners this year,” Miller said. “I just worry about getting better every day, making my teammates better and really asking myself the best. When the contract comes, it comes.”

The Rangers also offered Urho Vaakanainen an extension and traded Carson Soucy (traded by Ryan Lindgren). Suzy has one year left for the contract. Need to find another defender who can “moving the needle”. Miller is nearly 22 minutes a game, but can he take it to the next level? He is their best left-handed defensive player.

Jakob Chychrun is not on the market, and after that, the UFA list dropped to Vladislav Gavrikov and Ivan Provorov.

The second pairing Miller and Bauergen may be ideal. Finding Adam Fox partners will be needed, and they may not have a lot of cap space to work with.
