welcome! Where are you asking? I called this on weekend 9. Think of it as a place to heat you on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We will have ideas. We will have tips. We will have tweets. But overall, although sometimes more, sometimes even less. As for who I am? The following paragraph tells some stories. I can get in touch nick.piastowski@golf.com
I blame Nelly Korda. I have to blame someone.
You may be familiar with Korda Connections here. Last November, in this space, I wrote an article in which I invited various LPGA professionals to tip for how to break 80’s nephew. LexiThompson answered. Lydia Ko answered. Korda’s answer made him a little touring on social media – it wasn’t surprising considering that my 17-year-old nephew went there and only there to know the world around him.
Not long after, he sent me a text message. Four words.
“I can break 80.”
Mason did it last Tuesday. In fact, he has had a few times now. He is very good.
Now better than his uncle.
We’ve been playing together since he was about 5 or 6 years old. The record is one-sided, although I’ve been calling Tiger 2000 Play in some way as I get older. For this, my favorite memory is when I was taking a three-scroll 3 course a few years ago, Mason asked me, “Don’t you miss it?”
Ha ha.
But now he can’t. We called 36. The top 18, the card reads: Uncle Nick 89, nephew Mason 83. To his credit, he said too much. We went again. Second 18, I played better -81. But he is 78 too.
I lost.
twice.
Somewhere near the 34th hole, my wife texted, and despite using this sentence, she had a guess about the result. “I can’t believe I haven’t heard anything about golf all day.”
What can I say? This day is inevitable. I’m no longer invincible to him. He is very good. Very, very good.
My nephew wants to break 80. So I asked Nelly Korda for 1 tip

I’m very happy. Very, very happy. Is it bittersweet? not at all. I hope he wins, so I win too. It was a remarkable feeling to watch him figure out this unsolvable game. I’ve helped create 300 yards of driving, pink, debris and place monsters. Do you know the scenes in all the sports movies that the team wins, and the coach nods in the background? It’s a bit like this.
That said, I’m currently rereading Nelly’s tips.
Our next game is about to take place.
Let’s see if we can find eight items in Weekend 9.
The harvest of the week and the next few weeks
2. Speaking of teachers watching students…
I watched Jordan Spieth and Scottie Schefler in the same group at this week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson Championship. The idea started after being asked about Schaffler at his pre-match press conference for his first and second rounds.
“Jordan is three years older than us, and he’s obviously really good,” Schevler said. “I want to say Jordan has always been the one we looked up to when we were young. It can be said that when I was playing in the PGA at 13, 14, Jordan played here at Byron Nelson. He’s someone we look up to and want to imitate the course.
“We’ve been watching Jordan because he’s a little older and a little better than us.”
Here we won’t decide who is better or who is worse now. The scorecard can do this for us. But all of this does encapsulate the nature of the golf bird-Tody-Bowge Thomas, isn’t it? Spieth is still respected, even though he hasn’t won the competition in three years and hasn’t won the professional since the 2017 open championship.
Interestingly, a month later, Spieth had his first swing in the PGA Championship’s professional Grand Slam, playing at Quail Hollow, who hosted this year’s PGA in two weeks. Will Spieth do this? Odds say no. What about the next few years? This will be difficult. What about that? Today we will end our thoughts gently.
It makes Rory McIlroy’s just achieved even more perspective.
Golf is hard.
Another harvest this week and in the coming weeks
3. Speaking of golf, it’s hard…
This is the greatness of Mike Lorenzo-Vera, a long-time French profession. This week Thin sliced golf podcast (You can listen to it all here) Lorenzo-Vera says he has tried to reproduce one of Tiger Woods’ more famous dramas – the Tree Bunker around him was filmed at the 2019 WGC-MEXICO Championship (you can watch it by clicking here).
Lorenzo-vera said: “Those guys can do something that even really good people can’t do. I can give you an example. You know the shot of Mexico, where a tiger hit a tree from a trap? The next year, I went there and I threw six balls on Tuesday. And I looked at the camera and I couldn’t even be like the green 40 meters. It was impossible, and that guy turned the 9-140 meters railway for 50 yards.
“Oh, why don’t we have any professionals in France? Because no one can do it.”
4. Let’s stay with the woods.
McIlroy appeared on the Tonight Show Thursday, with host Jimmy Fallon asking Woods what he said to him after the Masters.
“He said, ‘Welcome to the club, kid.’ That’s cool.”
McIlroy also said he had received news from Elton John. Something
“That’s incredible. So I can’t actually connect with him. So his assistant left my voicemail and said, ‘Sir Elton would love to congratulate you in person. The only problem is that he doesn’t have a cell phone. So you might get a call from Windsor, England, England, and from landline.”
5. Another wood.
This is also great. Golf data Guru Lou Stagner tried to find out the probability of 10 Handicap, winning 72 holes in one hole on Prime Woods, you can read the X-thread by clicking here or scrolling below.
The best non-golf.com reading weekend
6. What am I reading (Apart from Thoughtful prose from my colleague)? This article is worth your click.
Here, TGL receives vanity fair treatment in a story written by Andrew Zaleski. Among the gems in the article, this is good:
One might say that golf is a sport that has long been alienating society without trying. Quiet activities at the Country Club take hours to complete. (Although the origin of this line is controversial, many writers, the thick bunch of our cheeky, call golf a considerable time enough to “break a good walk.” Opportunities for whif abound, something that can put middle-aged men in trouble because he sarcastically said the word “he is there!”.
Vanity Fair What really reminds me of is that McIlroy was watching “The Devil Wearing Prada” on Sunday night before the Player Championship Playoff Championship in March.
The best tips for weekends
7. I heard this was part of an interview with my story about working in PGA Champions Week. very good.
I remember spending a whole day with Ben Hogan in ’89 and he told me he never hit a hole. My goal is, he signs me because he wants to tell you the players who work with, they want to win patience, he is a very patient player.
“But when you shoot toward the middle of green, it’s the discipline required for discipline, not letting your eyes and mind wander around the flag.”
A golf story that may only interest me
8. Liv Golf’s Iron Head GC has its own beer. The original beer company brewed light ale, just as Lef played this week in South Korea, where the country where the Korean brewery is located.
I found interesting tweets
9. I like this. Last week, during a Liv Golf game in Mexico, Cam Smith’s ball was picked up by fans and was marked on the T-shirt with a position – the fans put the ball on the tee. You can watch the clip by clicking here or scrolling below.
Very good. The lady accidentally picked up Cam Smith’s ball and was asked to put it back. She placed it on the T-shirt that marked the ball position. Cam politely told her that he couldn’t play from the tee 😂 pic.twitter.com/qakz4ff93z

10. Let’s do 10 projects! I’m very fascinated by psychologist Oz, who recently visited Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and his caddies – he discovered Scheffler’s ATM PIN code. You can watch the clip by clicking here or scrolling below.

Golf/Non-Golf Thoughts
12. Next week, I’m going home again.
Five years ago, my mother passed away. A year later, my father passed away. We never offered them any service or reception for a variety of reasons, but next Saturday, we will finally. Maybe one day in this space, I will write about everything involved here.
But for now, I would say mom and dad would like their grandchildren to beat their uncle on golf.
