Werder Bremen told the club that he would not extend the contract and that he had fired coach Ole Werner.
The 37-year-old has been on a contractual state until the 2025-26 campaign ends, but shows that he won’t renew his deal after that.
“Since we need continuity and clear head coaching positions in the future, we decided to let it go.”
“We are really frustrated with this decision because in the long run, it’s easy for us to imagine working with Ole.”
Werner is considered one of Germany’s leading young coaches, who took over them in the second division and supervised the promotion before being promoted in the Bundesliga. The team missed only European qualifiers this season and ranked eighth in the Bundesliga.

Werner took over as Bremen coach under unusual circumstances after his predecessor Markus Anfang resigned in November 2021 while facing an investigation into his use of fake Covid-19-19 vaccine documents.
He said: “It’s obvious to me that after my contract is over – four and a half years later – the head coach needs to be changed to achieve further development.
“That’s why I made a decision next summer and informed the club’s management. From a club’s perspective, I understand Werder’s decision. I’ve had a great time with my coaching team, a great staff, a great team and club officials, and I’ve always been supported.”
