Caitlin Clark retired on Sunday at her alma mater after she swept the basketball world in Sunday’s game in Iowa.
Clark held the sold-out Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, and received praise from fans, former teammates and coaches at a ceremony last Sunday.
“People always ask Lisa and myself, do you think she will be that good?” We thought she would be American, bringing us into the last quarter, but do we think she will be the most famous athlete on the planet? It may not be that time now, said Jan Jensen, the head coach of the Hawkeyes.
In the 2023-24 season, Clark became the scorer in Iowa State history, an all-time scoring player for the NCAA, and led Iowa to the NCAA Championship game, the most watched women’s college game in history.
“Through all this, you’re loyal to yourself. You’ve shown why it’s wise to invest in women’s sports and why it’s wise to invest in women’s sports.”
Clark is the first draft pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft for Indiana’s fever-choosing choice.
“For all the people who have poured into me throughout my career (never received any recognition, our media team to our managers), all have given a lot of themselves to allow me to be who I am, thank you,” Clark continued.
