Newcastle co-manager Eddie Howe will be awarded City Freedom after the club’s historic Calabar Cup defeat to Liverpool.
Howe led the Hipies to a 2-1 victory on Sunday and won its first major trophy since 1969.
To recognize this achievement, he will receive Newcastle’s highest Citizen Honor Award, a honor previously awarded to club legends such as Sir Bobby Robson, Alan Shearer and Jackie Milborn.
The news was nominated for Northumberland County Liberty by another local hero, Dan Burn.
The born player played a key role in the final, scoring Newcastle’s opening goal at Wembley, the club’s first goal in 25 years at the stadium.

“Generations of supporters have never seen their beloved club cancel the home trophy and under his leadership, we all now value the memories of a truly memorable day,” she said.
The official confirmation of the Howe Awards is expected to be held at the full council meeting later this year.
Meanwhile, Northumberland County Council leader Glen Sanderson praised Burn’s contribution and confirmed plans to nominate him for Northumberland County’s freedom.
“It was a great victory for the area and the fact that the local lad in Bryce played such a crucial journey was great,” he said.
Apart from these honors, Northumberland National Park has also burned its tribute to the unique way – temporarily renamed Elsdon Burn Walk to Big Dan Burn Walk.
They added: “Normumberland National Park is a place as grand and vast as Dan himself.”
The club’s Carabao Cup victory will be marked by an open bus tour throughout the city. Newcastle United urged fans to “save date” on March 29 after an international break, when players and staff will showcase their long-awaited silverware.
