Jake Knapp has engraved his name in history with 15 under 60 rounds in PGA Tour history.
In the Brave Championship course in PGA National History, Knapp two were Birdie’s 18th Green and 59th. He made two new clubs this week with two new clubs.
The long Knapp attended many events Thursday with his third new driver. Knapp broke into a six-year-old Taylormade M5 driver at the Genesis Invitational two weeks ago and switched to last year’s Taylormade Qi10 again.
But this week, Knapp stayed on a Taylormade big stick, calling for QI35 this time, and he knocked it out around PGA National, including the 335 yard poke on the 18th on the 18th, the final of the day’s 12 birdies.
Knapp also changed the other end of the bag, swapping Taylormade spiders with the new Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.2 Circle tt mallet putts. Knapp said he didn’t think he put it all in the middle of the week (54th), but more because he just wanted to change his feelings.
“Just feel like I need to feel a little different, whether it’s for – sometimes in my mind it’s a few days or weeks, or maybe something,” Knapp said. “But it’s more like the way I feel like I’m missing putts, which is more like strategy. I don’t think I’m very bad, it’s just that I feel like I need to feel different.
Knapp’s new Cameron features a plumber’s neck design, which provides a toe suspension than the spider he uses (with double bent axles).
“I always keep the same head shape for most of the time, and then I just change between that plumber’s neck and double bends, so I’m hanging a little toe toe balanced with my face,” he said. “But yes, this is the right thing for me the last few days and it works great today.”
Apparently, both changes were in Knapp getting more than 2 shots from the tee and putting it into the 1st round. He scored 2.2: After the morning wave, the field position was the highest point in the field.
