Boone Jenner of Blue Jackets has an influence beyond the scoring list – Hockey Writer – Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus blue coat got a huge push when Captain Boone Jenner was able to return from a shoulder injury suffered in training camp. Now, we are beginning to see the enormous degree of this improvement to more than one.

Jenner has always been the consistency of his approach to playing as a member of Blue Jackets. He only knows one way to play games. That’s everything he has.

Jenner’s rewards can’t come when Blue Jackets are better. They fought teeth and nails in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Everything he was able to bring to the table in the ice making cancelled the entire team.

But that’s what Jenner does on the ice and doesn’t necessarily attract enough attention. As you can see, this will have a lasting impact in Blue Jackets’ locker room.

On the ice

After spending a few games to get rid of rust and getting used to the pace of the game again, Jenner has been one of the best players in the Blue Jackets. Even without scoring, head coach Dean Evason said Jenner was their best player in some games.

This speaks to something, given the recent struggle has found the offense. This means Jenner is influencing the game with what we all expect. He continues to play a role in every important situation. He won the crucial confrontation. He plays a big role in the power competition. He killed the punishment. He did everything.

Now, the offensive output begins to appear. Since returning from injury, Jenner has scored 17 points in 17 games. This includes his 5-3-8 in his last five games. He showed that he could commit crimes in different ways.

Jenner played a key role in the game during the Blue Jackets’ 8-4 defeat of the Nashville Predators.

The score is 4-3 blue jacket. The Predators just scored two goals, cutting them into a single goal game. They put pressure on the offensive zone to seek binding targets. At that time, the captain turned defense into offense.

Jenner can exploit mistakes. However, he not only had to clean the puck and make change, but also saw Fenty using the stick on the ice, making the puck get the puck at speed. It helped create a 5-3 goal and a turning point in Tuesday’s game.

Jenner might flip the puck high so everyone can change it. But instead, because of the chemistry they already have, they see an opportunity to play a role and do it. The blue jacket never looked back.

Fantilly said he is having a lot of fun with Jenner now.

“He came in immediately and had an impact,” Fentile said. “He was always hot when we didn’t score at our level, especially in the last few games here. He was in charge of him all the time. That’s why he was our captain. He was incredible and played with him, and he was fun. So I love it.”

Their teammate Kent Johnson had three assists Tuesday night. He said they were all chemistry together. It boils down to being associated with what they do.

“We’re all on the same line, and you’re having three guys do the exact same thing there, or you’ve always wanted to do the same thing at the same spot,” Johnson said. “I definitely think we all have very different games with very different skills. But I think we’re connected well and taking advantage of each other’s strengths.”

While the goals and points are good, this is just a small part of the story of how Jenner influenced in the locker room. As Fantilli said before, Jenner was their captain.

Help the next wave

This is perhaps the most underrated part of Jenner’s influence. He can pass on his wisdom and knowledge to the young core of the Blue Jacket. For the players, each of them recognizes how important the Captain’s presence is.

When Jenner first returned from his injury, everyone on the ice couldn’t hide his smile. It is a blessing and joy to know that they have been greatly promoted.

Johnson looks at Jenner every day from his captive perspective. Whatever happens, the captain is there to share his knowledge.

“It’s a leader,” Johnson said of Jenner’s leadership. “He sees his efforts every night. He always does a great job in the fight. Then, he’s just a good guy, very positive. He’ll say something if he needs to. I think he’s doing a great job in helping you (when needed). It’s saying what he believes, and it’s fun to play with him.”

“He’s a worker, but he loves it too. I think it’s the perfect balance. It’s contagious. We’re lucky to have him as our captain.”

Kirill Marchenko recorded a hat trick on Tuesday night. He couldn’t stop smiling as I reflected on all the things the captain did in his eyes.

“We love it. I think everyone loves playing with him,” Maltenko said of Jenner. “He’s a great leader (and) great captain and he gave us all the energy. His goal scores are a lot () and makes a lot of things happen on the ice. We need to follow him, and it’s incredible.”

Denton Mateychuk is a leader in his own right. As the captain of a junior, he understands what it will bring to such a position. He also saw Jenner’s approach and tried to learn from him.

“You can only see him getting into the rink every day and feel so excited,” Mateychuk said. That energy falls out when a man is happy to be on the rink and playing football. You all know he worked hard to come back. It was awesome to see this. That is leadership, just having this mentality. I think the way he behaves and the way he speaks in the room is how he helps the team. ”

The final thought

When considering Jenner’s career, it is incomplete to consider his number alone. Despite his positive impact and rapidly improving the franchise team, we must consider his role as captain equally.

Jenner did the Captain’s stuff for everyone in Johnson, Fantilli, Marchenko, Mateychuk and Blue Jackets. At the heart of youth is what it takes to learn and witness firsthand what it takes to be an influential player in the NHL. These courses are priceless and do not always appear on the score sheet.

Consider the days when the blue jacket is losing and trying to score. It was at that moment that the captain had to act and be a role model for this team. Jenner has been in this role and is thriving. As they develop into roles that move forward, his consistent approach will have a significant impact on the core.

Jenner did do it all for Blue Jackets. His teammates provide food for their energy. Everyone was listening when he spoke. He made his behavior the most. The result was a room closer than ever under his watch.

Jenner’s influence goes far beyond the scoring table. Over the years, his influence will be remembered for years due to the leadership he brings every day.
