Fans are eagerly counting down the days until Inokazu takes on Fernando Martinez on New Year's Eve in Tokyo. However, Ioka's Shisei Boxing Gym said on Monday that the Argentinian WBA super flyweight champion had the flu, forcing them to cancel the highly-anticipated fight at the last minute.

Martinez showed signs of illness when he canceled a public practice last Thursday. He also missed Sunday's signing ceremony, which set off alarm bells that something was seriously wrong. It was a blow to Ioka, who was eager to make a comeback after Martinez defeated Ioka by unanimous decision in their WBA-IBF unification fight in July.

Martinez reportedly gave up his IBF belt and skipped the mandatory title defense to complete the rematch.
