Rory McIlroy loves his ball.
JJ Spaun then lost him.
That’s almost that. McIlroy found the putter surface with a 130-yard three-and-five three-and-five season in TPC Sawgrass’ famous Island-Green 17. Spaun follows right afterward.
His ball never found the land. It completely flew green. It sinks into the bottom of the water, as does Spaun expecting a breakthrough victory.
From there, Spaun hit the green from the drop zone with his third shot, requiring chip shots on the green due to a stylish lie, while the two-trip sixes required two eliminations, while McIlroy bogeeded radiated the shot, which gave him a three-shot playoff mat to the 18th hole.
There, McIlroy booed again, Spaun caught the ball, McIlroy won the second player and the second game this year.
“A nightmare for 17 years old,” analyst Brad Faxon said on a golf channel broadcast.
