It’s hard to win in the PGA Tour. Justin Thomas found that the drought ended on Sunday in the legacy of the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) during his nearly three-year drought.
Joel Dahmen reminded himself of his blunt weapon in the final round of the Punta Cana resort in Puerto Rico and the club’s Kantacana Championship.
Dahmen won the game in 2021, and he entered the final round with a lead, hoping to return to the championship circle and about a year that made him miss five layoffs in 10 games.
The 37-year-old maintained a single-ball lead at three holes as the wheels began to swing. He made a sloppy bogey from the middle of the fairway in the 16th fairway and missed a putt within two feet at the age of 17.
After a bad goal, another bogey finished in the Under-18 game with an Under-13 game, who trailed Garrick Higgo, who won his second professional PGA Tour victory.
After the round, a shocked Damann evaluates how everything about Puerto Rico has disappeared for him.
“I think I’m a little shocked to be honest,” Damen said after the tie was over for the second time. “This is not how you win the golf tournament, I will tell you. I shouldn’t win the tournament.
“You know, the last three are unforgivable. It’s unforgivable in the middle of the 8th railway where I hit it on the 16th, you can’t get up there. I don’t know what happened on the 17th brief. I mean, I’m obviously nervous, I’m nervous, unfortunately, I’m easily getting that way. Daman was quick to point out that despite the losses caused by three closed bogeys, he had many other opportunities to close the deal over the weekend.
The veteran noted that he was “fighting” at the age of 16 when he hit the first of three consecutive bogeys.
Dahmen, who only had the top ten last season, already had three in 2025. His game feels like a trend, but Sunday’s destruction will be with him for a while.
“It may take a while to overcome,” Damen said. “It’s one of them, and unfortunately you learn more from failure. I don’t know what I should do. Like I said, I still think I’m a little shocked. It feels like I’m in a good head space. I’m in a good head space, but sometimes your body doesn’t cooperate.”
Daman points out how nervous he was when he tried to end the golf tournament.
He entered the weekend at the age of 16 and knew the game was his game if he could stay in this moment and believe in his game.
It’s easier said than done.
Daman said he tried to embrace his nerves and adrenaline on Sunday. In the past, he tried to suppress these feelings. He hopes that the change in mindset will allow his body to control nerves and utilize their benefits as long as he can control it.
The first 15 holes were a shaky Sunday, but Daman still won the game with a lead and his second career.
Then, everything collapsed.
“Obviously, you have to control some breathing and try to control your heart rhythm,” Daman said. “But at the same time, you’re offensive and playing. I’m trying to keep the golf aggressive. I did, but just didn’t exercise. Sorry.”
