Southampton suffered the earliest relegation in Premier League history as they beat the game 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur.

After qualifying last season through the championship, the Saints experienced painful time on top flight.

They succumbed to the inevitable, Brennan Johnson’s stent made the Spurs named.

Mateus Fernandes withdrew one from Southampton in the 90th minute, but Mathys Tel’s 96th minute fine secured the Spurs’ points.

The result is that after the mid-week defeat of Chelsea, the increasing pressure on Tottenham owner Ange Postecoglou was relieved.

Still, Tottenham’s season is basically determined by the fate of the Europa League. They faced Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Southampton became the first team to relegate with seven games and could break the record with the lowest Premier League points, with their latest defeat stakes them with 10 points. Derby County relegated a record 11 relegations in the 2007-08 season.

“We have to avoid this record. Do our best. It’s impossible,” manager Ivan Juric told Sky Sports after the game.

“We’re thinking about the game right now. We’re going to see what everyone thinks, what I think. Fans deserve more, we have to understand all the mistakes we make and then create something really powerful.”

Postecoglou seeks full performance

While the Spurs were undoubtedly in Southampton, Postecoglou was still not happy with their second half performance, knowing that it could give Frankfurt a more complete performance, which ranked third in the Bundesliga.

“We performed well in the first half and we had to make sure we did that,” PosteCoglou told BBC Sport.

Johnson’s goal is his first since February, with Wales International’s Postecoglou adding: “He’s great, he’s also fined. His average game is really good, not just his goal is really happy with him.

“What matters is that we have won today and everyone has passed [unscathed] Thursday. ”

Brentford 0-0 Chelsea

The Chelsea star man had a chance to win the game in the 94th minute, but his efforts from the edge of the region have flew over to extend Bruce’s unwind league on the road to eight games.

Maresca’s soldiers will be leapt to fourth by Manchester City’s fourth place if Manchester wins the Manchester derby, and Chelsea’s slippery gives Newcastle United a chance to walk with them on Monday.
