In the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, Shreyas Iyer was sold to Kings XI Punjab (PBKS) for a whopping Rs 267.5 crore. Punjab are the most expensive team among all the teams and they have spent a lot of money on quality players. Recently, Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title in the previous edition, was also announced as Punjab's captain for the upcoming season.

For the uninitiated, Iyer was not retained by KKR despite lifting trophies for them as captain, and hence, he fetched a sky-high price at the auction. The cricketer sparked controversy after he entered into talks with the team over retention ahead of the auction and said the team made concrete efforts to keep him in the Knights' squad.

“We spoke immediately after the IPL tournament. But we were on hold for months and no concrete steps were taken to hold reservation talks. I am confused as to what happened. So, due to lack of communication , we came to the point where we eventually parted ways, that's the long and short of it.

Former KKR cricketer reacts to this Akash Chopra revealed that lengthy talks must have taken place and labeled Ayer's remarks as false statements.

Shreyas IyerIt's funny what he said, no one talked to him. He said KKR didn't even talk to him. I can confirm that the conversation did take place, it was long and happened multiple times. You can't come to an agreement there. This is a separate issue,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel

“This is an investment relationship franchise, I won't go into details, but Shrias has some concerns about how things are going to unfold at the auction, karma is real ah!Chopra added.
