Kraken launches Daccord from IR, more AHL sports – The Hockey Writers – Seattle Kraken

The Seattle Kraken activated netminder Joey Daccord on Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 7) after spending approximately two days on retroactive injured reserve (IR). Additionally, the club has taken a new step in support of its American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Coachella Valley Firebirds by sending some recently drafted players back to the AHL and calling up another Firebirds team.

Daccord, a regular starter for Seattle, last played on Christmas Eve, Dec. 22 on the road against the Colorado Avalanche. There was a moment during the game when he showed clear signs of pain in his upper body. He finished the race but has not competed or practiced since. The team officially announced on Sunday (January 5) that the 28-year-old was on IR retroactive to December 22.

During this time, the Kraken requested support from Firebirds netminder Ales Stezka in support of veteran Philipp Grubauer. In other words, from December 28 to January 6, Grubauer started all five games.

Although Seattle is having a rough season overall, Daccord is 12-9-2 with a 2.51 earned run average and a 0.912 save percentage.

Stezka and company return to Coachella, Stephens heads to Seattle

Stetzka was naturally sent to rejoin his Firebirds teammates. Joining him returning to Coachella Valley are blueliner Cale Fleury and recently drafted forward Ben Meyers.

A Firebird is heading north, and that's forward Mitchell Stephens. The 27-year-old from Peterborough, Ont., has appeared in nine games for the Kraken this season, giving him some visibility in the locker room. He dished out 1 assist, had a minus-2 rating, and averaged 9 minutes and 45 seconds per game.

The Kraken lost three straight (two in the regular season) to the New Jersey Devils at home on Monday (Jan. 6), 3-2. , begins a road trip.
