On Monday, June 2, Seattle Cleken announced that they had signed a one-year extension for Ben Meyers. The 26-year-old striker received a one-way contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.
Meyers started his NHL career immediately after three years at the University of Minnesota. He played 102 games in three college-level seasons and recorded 95 points. In the final season of 2021-22, he was appointed captain of the team. After the third year of his college career, Meyers signed with the Colorado Avalanche on April 13, 2022. Three days after signing, he played his first game. He never made the draft, just hit the NHL ice immediately. He played five games in the 2021-22 season, scored a goal and scored a loss of 2.
During the 2022-23 season, Meyers allocated time between the avalanche and their AHL membership (Colorado Eagles). He participated in 39 games with the Avalanche, scoring four goals but winning six goals. In the Hawks game, Meyers played 30 games and recorded 24 points with 6 goals and 18 assists.
Meyers started the 2023-24 season in Colorado again. He played nine games with the Avalanche and scored a goal. He also played 32 games in the AHL and recorded 25 points. On March 8, 2024, he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 draft. Meyers ended the 2023-24 season with Anaheim and recorded 2 assists.
Anaheim chose not to re-sign Meyers, instead, he played free agents. On July 1, 2024, Claken signed him. Meyers played eight games with Seattle and finished with a loss of 2. In 57 games against the Coachella Valley Firebirds, Seattle’s AHL team, he scored 23 goals and scored 28 assists. He also played six playoff games and recorded threes with one goal and two assists.
Meyers has performed well with the Firebirds this season. He will be a bunch of gratifying faces when the Firebirds are ready for the fourth season of the AHL.
