LIV golfers’ dilemma and their official world golf rankings have a new life this week as the Tour has submitted new applications to earn the world rankings in its events.
OWGR Chairman Trevor Incelmann shared a formal statement on Friday, acknowledging that LIV submitted its latest application on June 30 and that the board has begun reviewing it. Although all previous iterations end with rejection, it is far from the first chapter in the legend.
“We thank Liv Golf and all travel interests – contributed to the global landscape of professional golf worldwide through OWGR,” Immelman’s statement said. “As the review progresses, further updates will be provided.”
For now, this is an vague update to an vague journey. OWGR often points out that it took about 18 months to apply for the league. Why? Because OWGR requires a tournament sample size to evaluate how the league meets various criteria.
OWGR doesn’t publicly acknowledge the criteria required to succeed in applying for success, but based on a past LIV executive, such as 1) the number of events per season, 2) the recognition from another tour, 3) 3) the smallest wallet size – Liv all done. However, other criteria, such as the overall size of the site that requires an average of 75 or higher, LIV fails. Is 54 holes enough in each game, especially when most games in the world have more than 72 holes?
Also, how players work arrive LIV Journey? Are there open qualifying matches, or just players who sign the annual contract, regardless of how they perform? OWGR wants to solve these problems. It takes time.

LIV first applied for the world ranking point when it was launched in the summer of 2022, the assumption will be approved without problems. Executives told players who submitted their future schedule to LIV’s future schedule will receive points, but it has never been achieved. Weekly passed – OWGR ranked players based on performance in the last two years – meaning LIV players are declining further and further.
The suffering lasted until the fall of 22, when the Leaf golfers signed a formal letter urging officials to speed up their acceptance. Two weeks later, Liv then announced a “strategic partnership” with the Middle East MENA Tour (headquartered in the Middle East) because people believed it would suddenly give them a point of view as MENA Tour determined this through OWGR. However, the ranking committee stepped in and clarified that it has not completed the review and would not add any scores so quickly.
It was not until a full year, October 2023 that OWGR officially ruled that Liv would not receive points.
“It’s totally technical,” said board chairman Peter Dawson at the time. “LIV players are consciously good at being ranked. They just don’t have the format of 24 other tours and thousands of trying to rank fairly among the players they compete for.”
There was a big difference back then. Just signed a framework agreement between the PGA Tour and Saudi PIF (Liv’s Uber Whealty parent company). Unification seems to be coming. Greg Norman is at least public. But, with no trade improvement over time, or even just the point, Liv Golf aches on its slogan. In March 2024, Norman publicly stated that the league had mainly given up on its pursuit and withdrew its application two months later.
But, of course, there is nothing in the Pro Golf that can stay the same for a long time these days. Norman was replaced by Scott O’Neill in January with Liv Head, and reported in May that there was a serious conversation between Liv and Owgr. Immelman, now officially chairman, told the Associated Press that Liv did not reapply, but “the ball is on their court.”
Liv Golf has not responded when commented.

Pro Golf forked as ever, which means direct elements. Everyone knows to a large extent where everyone will play and where they won’t be. But the future is still blurred. Liv continued to accept it in Pro Golf World, but glacier speed spreads at glacier speed. Negotiations between Saudi PIF and the PGA Tour were completely stagnant. Bryson DeChambeau will hold contract negotiations with the league later this fall. The same may be true for Brooks Koepka.
To cross the threshold and be fully accepted by the OWGR, must you walk around or change? Golf fans will have to stay patient.
