
72 players arrived at the Caesare Golf Club in the 2025 Open Championship 36-hole final qualifier. But only nine holes entered the game, and the fields that competed for the attractions in Royal Protush were trimmed to 71.
That’s because a Liv Golf Pro walked out of the court and left without saying anything.
Pro Sam Horsfield was disqualified for his walking performance ahead of the disastrous top nine British Golf Publications bed Confirmed.

Horsfield takes the course in 2025 Open Qualifiers
After the game ended in Liv Golf Dallas on Sunday, 14 LIV players flew to England and Scotland to try to capture one of the final men’s professional final attractions in the final year of the year.
The top five finishers at four different qualifying sites won Tee Times in two weeks at Royal Protush. The final qualifier is particularly important for LIV players in the field as it is even more difficult to win the title among the four major champions in men’s golf.
But with the fierce competition, every player knows he needs to lower it early and pass it often.
The opposite happened in Horsfield. The 28-year-old professional from England joined Liv Golf when he debuted in 2022, winning three DP World Tour victories early in his career.
Horsfield struggled 43 in his first nine games after playing in West Lancashire qualifiers on Tuesday. At that time, he decided that he had enough, went out of the way, and gave up on the hunt.
But, as R&A confirmed Bunkered.co.ukHorsfield left the course without reminding anyone of his plans. As a result, he was disqualified.
(He isn’t the only one who chooses not to end. Alex Fitzpatrick is the brother of 2022 U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick – both Kieran Vincent and Kazuma Kobori were recorded as DQS before the end of the Zelancashire qualifier.

LIV Pros and 2025 Open Champion
It’s a mixed bag when it comes to LIV stars already qualify for Royal Protush’s open championship.
Many of the top players in the upstart league have already received kickoff time. The winners of the Open Champions receive every open automatic invitation until they are 60 years old. So Liv Pros, who won the Open, was set up with stars like Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen and Cameron Smith.
Liv’s biggest star Bryson DeChambeau won his position based on his world rankings (No. 15), and since joining LIV, he has been able to maintain by performing well in his profession. Otherwise, he will be eligible to win the 2020 and 2024 U.S. openings.
Dustin Johnson is using his final waiver to win the 2020 Masters. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia won the final automatic seat retained by the top 5 players in Liv Golf.
