The poll was originally conducted approximately 24 hours before the NBA Cup Finals. But after Antetokounmpo's dominant performance of 26 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 21 points on 8-of-24 shooting and committed more turnovers (3). Assists (2) later, ESPN reached out to all 100 voters again. As a result, 29 voters chose to change their votes, which more than doubled Antetokounmpo's first-place vote total and significantly narrowed the gap between him and second-place Gilgeous-Alexander.
