Wyndham Clark went on social media on Monday and apologized for the club after a poor driving in the final round of the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club on Sunday.
Clark is the 2023 U.S. Open champion and he was already three-pointer when he entered the 4-16-hole. He bumped into a fairway bunker, stopped briefly to look at it, and then hit the driver and hit the advertising board behind the T-shirt box. (There does not appear to be a spectator behind the T-shirt area.) The driver’s head was also taken away, and Clark threw the shaft out of the T-shirt box.
The TV analyst is dead.
Clark stood out in 15 bogeys and made the bogey the first of three dangerous green mile holes in the quail hollow. He got the standards on 17 and 18.
“I sincerely apologize for my actions on Hall 16 yesterday,” Clark wrote in his Instagram story on Monday. “As a professional, we should be professional even if we feel frustrated, and unfortunately, my emotions are best shown. My actions are inconsistent and totally inappropriate, showing that I have something I need to keep working on. I stick to a high level. I want to always work hard for my own things, not myself, and yesterday I will give you a bigger attitude and I am frustrated by my frustration. Time.”
Clark opened the PGA in rounds 72, 69 and 73 in Sunday’s 74. He ranked fourth overall, tied for 50th, winning $40,674.
This season, Clark ranked 20th in the global rankings and ranked in the top 10 in 13 games.
