Manchester United provides stadium updates

United will propose a proposed stadium project update supporters on Tuesday after co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reiterated his desire for old and new Trafford.

United have been studying whether to rebuild its existing venue in the same area with the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force or to build a new stadium in the same area.

Lord Sebastian Coe’s task force is expected to speak with Ratcliffe in the stadium project update in London on Tuesday.

Ratcliffe told Gary Neville on the Overlap Podcast: “If you think this is the greatest football club in the world, then if you are going to build a new stadium, it should be a new stadium for the greatest club in the world.

“It’s also a stadium for the greatest league in the world, because the Premier League is the greatest league in the world.

“Currently, if you watch the Premier League, we have some great stadiums, but we don’t have Bernard, right? And we don’t have new camps. Even though it’s the greatest league in the world, we don’t have this league.

“And if you look north of England, north of England won 10 Champions League finals and London won two titles, so there are many reasons to have the most iconic football stadium in the world with the greatest club in the north of England.”

Ratcliffe said United “does not need any government funding” for a new stadium, but stressed that it must be part of a government-backed project to rebirth the area near Old Trafford.
