United are seriously considering the move to bring Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton to transform Ruben Amorim’s midfield unit.
Ruben Amorim revealed flaws in his roster in the first few months of Old Trafford, forcing him to realize the reality of the situation. There is a clear problem in his roster that when summer arrives and hand them the Portuguese tactician player who fits his 3-4-2-1 system, Ineos must fix it, perhaps starting with a quality midfielder.
The Red Devils reportedly will strengthen their pursuit of Adam Walton from Crystal Palace. It is understood that they are preparing a £66 million offer for British talent, and they have only returned from two months of injury layoffs.
Wharton, 21, was named one of the hottest British talents after moving from Blackburn Rovers to Blackburn Rovers’ Crystal Palace in January 2024. The midfielder helped change the Hawks in the second half of last season, then saw his first full-scale campaign at Selhurst Park.
Recently returned from groin surgery, the 21-year-old was a member of England’s 2024 final in Germany and is also in several major Premier League Wigs.

Amorim and Ineos clearly show that Manchester United’s midfield unit needs to be revamped. Christian Eriksen, who had no contract at the end of the season, would most certainly leave the club for free transfers. Likewise, United are eager to get rid of Casemiro, who has surpassed his peak form and is not suitable for playing in Amorim’s vibrant and oppressive system.
Once Eriksen and Casemiro’s massive wages were released, Wharton seemed to be the ideal candidate to replace one of them in Amorim’s team. At 21, he fits into Ineos’ recruitment model to target young talents with high potential as well as Amorim’s system.
All-round midfielders are gradually working to achieve full fitness and best shape. He returned to Oliver Glasner’s starting XI to beat Aston Villa 4-1. Walton had a huge impact on the palace’s midfield, which made John McGinn and Youri Tielemans (Your Youri Tielemans).
Given England International’s profile, he will be best suited to work with Manuel Ugarte in the machine room. The Wharton acquisition will also allow Bruno Fernandes to return to his original senior organizer role, from where he can influence more games than more deeply.
While there is no doubt that the Wharton will strengthen Manchester United’s midfield, the main question is whether they can afford such a huge deal in the summer? Their lack of financial status and PSR restrictions are well known, so the 20-time British champions must sell well and even consider beating several other clubs to sign for Walton.
