Multan Sultans owner Ali Jahangir Tareen took a sly dig at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while responding to a question about the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League.
This year's 10th edition of the PSL will take on the Indian Premier League (IPL). The two events will meet for the first time. The PSL is usually held between February and March. However, the PCB had to change the window this year as the Champions Trophy is scheduled to be played on February 19.

Therefore, the PSL is scheduled to be held in April and May this year. According to reports, PCB is currently trying to sign some high-profile overseas players who were unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
According to reports, big-name players such as David Warner, Mustafizur Rahman, Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes and others will be part of the player draft scheduled to be held on January 13. The star players have registered their names for the IPL Premier League auction but failed to get any bids.
Ali Jahangir Tareen takes dig at PCB ahead of PSL players draft:
While many big-name overseas players will be participating in this month's PSL player draft, many believe signing these players could backfire. There are fears that players signed by PSL teams may find themselves in trouble if they decide to opt for the IPL in case they are signed as substitute players by an IPL team.
Ali Jahangir Tareen was also asked about the situation. In response, the Multan Sultans boss could not stop himself from taking a swipe at the PCB as he pointed out that the board could not do anything to stop players from choosing the IPL over the PSL.
He also revealed that the PCB cannot even stop players from leaving the PSL midway through the season to attend weddings.
“I'm sure the PCB officials will say, 'We will do this, we will do this, we will ban them', but what can they actually do? One of our players left the game to attend a wedding and we even Can't stop him, so what can they say to a player who plays for money? Tareen said on Relukattay's YouTube channel.
Q: What happens if a player selected in PSL 10 is selected as a substitute in IPL?
Ali Tareen, when a player leaves PSL to attend a wedding, we can't even stop him, so how can we stop a player who is paying to play? pI.wte.oh/HIKohphosphorus

Recently, PCB also had to settle for a hybrid model of the Champions Trophy. Although they had the rights to host the tournament, the BCCI refused to send the Indian team to Pakistan. Ultimately, the ICC chose the United Arab Emirates as a neutral venue. Therefore, India will play all their matches in Dubai.
